MedWish helps to re-purpose discarded medical supplies, and our volunteers help with this process. We collect tens of thousands of pounds of donated supplies each month and rely on volunteers to help us sort through these supplies, checking expiration dates and ensuring product viability.
Sorting takes place through a number of different steps, and volunteers can expect to participate in all steps of the process (examples include sorting medical supplies into categories, matching similar items together, boxing, and labeling inventory).
No medical experience is necessary!

Favorite Quote: " Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game" - Babe Ruth
Because of my service learning experience, I have met a diverse group of individuals filled with wisdom, passion, and strength that inspire me everyday.
To be fully present with those I work with I had to unlearn the idea that they are in need of "service". This semester I work with the Powersource program at the Juvenile Detention Center. I had to unlearn the idea that the girls I work with are any different than myself. Many of the crimes that led to them being in the JDC are minimal crimes that anyone could commit. They often suffer from systemic barriers and corrupt injustice systems that lead to them having to spend time at the JDC for a mistake they made. Everyone makes mistakes, and it shouldn't define one's life.
Through service I have learned that many people suffer from an unfair societal system of injustice based on born privileges. This systemic injustice is rooted in a history of oppression and leads historically oppressed populations to suffer continuously from generation to generation. I apply this learning by examining how my privilege affects my life compared to others. I look for deep rooted causes of oppression that lead populations to struggle. It guides me to find new ways to get involved in advocacy organizations, to empower others, and examine how these barriers can be corrected to not support a continuous system of privilege and oppression.
