The Middle School Minute

Why are routines important for scholars? (The A.M. Edition)

Scholars need structure and familiarity as they continue to learn and develop. Routines and procedures give scholars a predictable day. When they know what to expect each day, they feel more confident and secure in their daily activities.

As a family, create a routine that will make your mornings run smoothly. Prepare as much as possible the night before.

  1. Pack lunches
  2. Prepare school clothes
  3. Organize the essentials

Create a checklist of a morning routine for school.

  1. Get dressed
  2. Eat breakfast
  3. Morning hygiene

Get up before your scholars.

  1. Aim to set your alarm for at least 15 minutes to give yourself some precious “me time.”
  2. A few moments of peace can help set the tone for your morning routines.
  3. You’ll feel so much better for it!

Academy Giving

Did you know that you can double or even triple your Community Investment donations to Trivium Prep? Many companies will match their employees’ donations to our school through their Corporate Gift Matching Programs. And it’s an easy way to increase the impact of your donations!

Search our directory to see if your company is listed. If they aren’t listed here, please take the extra step to inquire with your Human Resources department to find out if your company offers a matching gifts program. Please contact Tina Swartz, at tina.swartz@greathearts.org with any questions.

Thank you so much for your donations and for your matches!

Trivium Prep National Merit Semifinalists

The officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) have announced the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,100 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $28 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. Over 95% of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

Here at Trivium Preparatory Academy, we have 2 Semifinalists

Health Office Updates

Tired. Grumpy. Headaches. Lacking focus. These are just a few of the things that can happen when students are hungry at school.

From the growing body of research, it’s clear that what children and young people eat (and do not eat) can affect not only their physical health but their mood, mental health, participation in sports and activities and engagement in learning. Studies show that eating breakfast positively affects school performance. They have better concentration and more energy.

These findings include:

  • Kids who eat breakfast in the morning before a standardized test have significantly higher scores in math, spelling and reading than those who don't.
  • Breakfast eaters have better brain function, memory and attention.
  • Eating breakfast improves kids' performance on vocabulary tests, math problems and challenging mental tasks. It also helps them deal better with frustration.

Unfortunately, we are seeing a large number of students who aren’t eating breakfast and/or lunch. We are asking for parents help in making sure their scholar is eating breakfast every morning and either packing a lunch or ordering one from our Hot Lunch meal program. We are also asking for donations of the following items to help support our scholars:

  • Granola bars/crackers/ ready to eat soups or cups of noodles
  • Lysol sanitizing wipes
  • Water bottles

Parents, if you would like to donate these items this would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be left in the front office labeled for the Trivium Prep nurse. Thank you!

You can find all school-wide communications on our website on the Latest School Updates page.

If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@triviumprep.org for assistance.

School Messenger Communication

Great Hearts and Trivium Prep continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.
