The year 2023 marked the end of terms for several long-tenured public servants.


Town Council member Robert Shalhoub stepped down following 31 years on the Town Council.


Town Council member Valentin Rodriguez, Jr. also stepped down following 17 years on the Town Council.


Dan Clark retired from his position as Town Manager after 12 years of service to the Town.

The Lake Clarke Shores Town Council upheld its duty to safeguard public funds in 2023.


LOWERED TAXES


For the first time in over a decade, the Lake Clarke Shores Town Council voted to lower the property tax rate.

Since 2010, the town has kept the same tax rate. In 2023, the Town Council lowered the rate by approximately three percent.


VULNERABILITY STUDY


The Town Council commissioned a study of the town’s storm resiliency to identify areas requiring attention to ensure the continuation of services during and after a storm.

The Town of Lake Clarke Shores Town Council in 2023 passed several pieces of legislation to improve quality of life.


SHORT TERM RENTALS


The Town Council passed new regulations for short term rental properties. The new ordinance mandates property owners register with the town. It also puts in place several safety requirements and addresses how many people are permitted to rent at any one time.


PARKING REGULATION


The town adopted a new ordinance that addresses the parking of various vehicles in residential areas, including both single-family and multi-family properties.



NOISE POLLUTION


The town implemented new rules regulating noise levels at the pavilions in response to resident concerns.

The hottest trend in sports came to Lake Clarke Shores in 2023 with the completion of two new pickleball courts for residents to enjoy.


The courts, located in Lake Clarke Shores’ Community Park allow pickleballers to enjoy the fastest growing sport in the nation right in their own backyard!


Also in 2023, the town invested in its Tennis Center by completely resurfacing the courts.


Both efforts were part of the town’s ongoing commitment to provide residents with the highest quality amenities, parks, boat ramps and more.

In 2023, the Town of Lake Clarke Shores introduced a new online permit system.


The new system allows you to submit documents, track your project, make payments, and even request inspections.

All permit applications are now submitted electronically through the new portal.


The new system is part of Lake Clarke Shores' commitment to improve customer experience and embrace technology to make the public's interactions with Town Hall as easy as possible.

In 2023, the Lake Clarke Shores Police Department continued its commitment to protecting the safety of the town by responding to nearly 130 vehicle crashes, issuing 3,027 traffic citations and making 97 arrests. Code Enforcement issued 1,447 violations.


The Lake Clarke Shores Police Department also joined the social media platform “Neighbors” to improve communication and transparency.


The officers, leadership and staff of the Lake Clarke Shores Police Department include individuals trained in areas ranging from community policing to homeland security.

FOOTPRINTS


In 2023, the Town of Lake Clarke Shores launched a unique effort targeted at older residents.


The Town of Lake Clarke Shores “Footprints” program offers senior residents a place to connect with neighbors, learn about topics relevant to seniors, and nurture the bonds of friendship and companionship.


The “Footprints” program is part of Lake Clarke Shores’ commitment to enhance the lives of residents through the promotion of community engagement and public events.
