Early Dismissal Tomorrow -- October 30

Students will be released at 2pm tomorrow, October 30 due to Professional Development for our Faculty and Staff.

Stallions in the Spotlight

35 SFD students spent last Thursday at the Run the Race Farm for a Halloween party. Bonfire, games, pumpkin painting, trunk or treat and lots of fun was had by all. Students brought to life our school theme of living with kindness.

Senior Ila Allen is being recognized this week by the Columbus Dispatch for Student of the Week. Please take a moment to vote for her today! Vote Here.

129 students (pictured) were inducted to the Saint Francis Chapter of the National Honor Society on Sunday. Congratulations!

Members of the St. Vincent DePaul club spent their Saturday afternoon at the Abruzzi Club volunteering at the MOMM Foundation’s Fall Fest fundraiser. The MOMM Foundation helps support those in need in our community and was started by the family of alumna and former SFD staff member, Megan Polk.

Sophomores Stella Nicholson and Allison Rankin, along with Autism Awareness Club advisor Mr. Montenaro, attended the Trick or Trunk event held by the Autism Society of Central Ohio on Sunday.

Illuminate the Senior Courtyard

SFD is seeking proposals to illuminate Senior Courtyard for the Advent and Christmas Seasons. We are exploring two options:

1. If you are associated with a business that would be interested in this work, please contact Phil Kraker at kraker@desales.co for details.

2. If you are interested in volunteering your time to brighten DeSales, also contact Phil Kraker at kraker@desales.co.

Chaplain's Corner

Praised be Jesus Christ! This week we celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints on Friday and the Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed (All Souls Day) on Saturday. In the past, All Saints Day was known as All Hallows Day (hallow meaning holy or saintly - think of the Our Father where we pray “hallowed be Thy name”), which then made the evening before All Hallows Eve, or Halloween.

On these two days, we remember and pray for those who have died. On All Saints Day, we celebrate the lives of those who are in Heaven, asking for their prayers and learning to imitate them as they imitated Jesus. On All Souls Day, we pray for those who are in Purgatory, that God would welcome them into Heaven.

So, this week, we ask for the intercession of our patron Saints, including our Confirmation Saints. And we pray for those who have died, especially our family members and those who have no one to pray for them.

Junior "Faith and Service" Retreat

Members of the junior class will be participating in their class retreats either on November 12 or November 14 at St. Peter and Paul Retreat Center. The Junior retreat allows students to grow their relationship with Jesus in a focused, off-campus environment led by trained missionaries. Getting away from the usual distractions, juniors dedicate a full day to deepening their faith through keynote speakers, reflection, and team building. Juniors are encouraged to take ownership of their faith after the retreat by engaging in service and spiritual growth opportunities through the Office of Campus Ministry.

Spiritual Reflection

Dear Lord, when time drags on, and prayers go unanswered, when our hard work seems so futile—when we wonder what difference we’re making, remind us of the mustard seed. Though it appears so insignificant, so incapable of bringing forth life, we know it finds its purpose and serves magnificently. Bless us with great possibilities and increase our faith in your presence in all we do. Amen.
