Basketball sportswriters inducted into USBWA Hall of Fame


The Class of 2024 to be be inducted into the United States Basketball Writers Association’s Hall of Fame during the NCAA Men’s Final Four weekend in April in Glendale, Arizona, includes Bob Baptist of The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch, Donna Ditota of The (Syracuse, New York) Post-Standard, Chris Dortch of the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook and Terry Hutchens, who was hired as the inaugural Indiana University beat writer for CNHI Sports Indiana in 2016 and spent three years serving readers across the nation in that role.

Joy Sewing, a Houston native and veteran journalist, is taking on a new role as a news columnist. Chronicle readers have come to know Sewing for her takes on people — especially people of color — and cultural topics that make the city tick.

UFCJC Journalism Professor Wayne Wanta retiring


Wayne Wanta, University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (UFCJC) Journalism professor and former Journalism Department chair, is retiring at the end of this year after a 12-year tenure at the College. Wanta will pursue a Fulbright Scholar Award at the University of Wroclaw in Poland and write a book on international sports.
