A Message from RMHF President & Chief Executive Officer, Reggie Gordon
I will never forget how I felt my first day on the job. I walked in the door on July 17th and immediately felt welcomed. The warmth of the team and their eagerness to embrace a new chapter at RMHF was inspiring. We got right to work.

While we’ve made progress, we must always seek new ways to support efforts that result in a more equitable, healthier community, and we can get there together. I envision an RMHF that:

  • Builds upon our existing relationships with local organizations
  • Uses these relationships to steward investments to those doing critical work
  • Pursues and secures new resources by leveraging local, state, and national partnerships

RMHF has long established itself as an organization that can effectively support partners who share our goal of advancing health and racial equity in the region. I believe now is the perfect opportunity to take that work one step further, to reach that much higher, and to dig that much deeper.

As we pursue this vision, I am eager to work with our Trustees, staff, community, and funding partners to solve the generational problems that have impeded the ability of so many to live full, empowered lives. I am grateful to follow in the footsteps of Jeff Cribbs and Dr. Mark Constantine, who helped guide RMHF into becoming the kind of community partner Richmond needs.

As the new President & CEO, I am honored to carry the torch for this vital organization, and I cannot wait to see what we are able to accomplish together.

Thanks,
Reggie Gordon
The Virginia Funders Network Older Adults Report
RMHF recently collaborated with Bob and Anna Lou Schaberg Foundation to publish a report for Virginia Funders Network. The publication entitled, Virginia Philanthropy's Response to the Challenges Facing Older Adults, outlines the critical role philanthropy continues to play in supporting the Commonwealth’s older adult populations.

The report states that “less than 2% of philanthropic funding nationally goes to support traditional age-related services.” With our aging populations receiving such a small percentage of philanthropic dollars, this is a crucial, unfulfilled need, which is why the report also includes ways funders can get directly involved in this work.

This report builds on the work RMHF and the Schaberg Foundation continue to pursue to drive additional investments in this area. We are honored to be a part of the development of this report, and we look forward to engaging with partners and funders to support this often-overlooked area.
