Who We Are

Get It Done SB! (GIDSB) and Mi Regalo (MR) are Hospice of Santa Barbara's (HSB) Advance Care Planning (ACP) initiatives, focused on bringing awareness and education in both English and Spanish to ensure that all of our community members know and have a completed Advance Directive before they need it.

Get It Done SB! (GIDSB) y Mi Regalo (MR) son programas de Hospice of Santa Barbara (HSB) enfocados en brindar el tema de la Planificación Anticipada de Atención Médica en inglés y en español a nuestra comunidad y así asegurar que todos conozcan y tengan su Directiva Avanzada completada antes de que la necesiten.

Workshop Spotlight:

Valle Verde

Get It Done SB! and Mi Regalo are celebrating a successful Advance Care Planning workshop this past May at Valle Verde!

On May 4, senior residents of Valle Verde Assisted Living attended Part 1 of our Advance Care Planning workshop to complete a MyCare Advance Directive with help from our Hospice of Santa Barbara volunteer Jayne Brechwald. In the lively atmosphere of the Ray Schneider Social Room, participants were guided through the document page by page and engaged in conversation relating to topics of CPR, Life Sustaining Treatments, and Organ Donation. 

After an enthusiastic first session, residents returned a week later to notarize their documents. 14 documents were completed with the help of our volunteer Jayne, as well as HSB’s Community Initiatives Coordinator Julia Barrera, VNA Health Licensed Medical Social Worker Edith Gonzalez, and Valle Verde Social Services Manager Dawna Cunha.

Our ACP team is incredibly excited to continue hosting Advance Care Planning workshops this year and help our community ensure their healthcare wishes are made known and respected!

Get It Done SB! y Mi Regalo están celebrando un taller de Planificación Anticipada de Atención Médica exitoso este mayo pasado en asociación con Valle Verde.

Este pasado 4 de mayo, los residentes de Valle Verde Assisted Living asistieron a la primera parte de nuestro taller de Planificación Anticipada de Atención Médica para completar su directiva avanzada, MyCare, con la ayuda de la voluntaria de Hospice of Santa Barbara (HSB), Jayne Brechwald. En el animado ambiente del Ray Schneider Social Room, los participantes fueron guiados página por página al participar en conversaciones relacionadas al RCP, los tratamientos para prolongar la vida, y la donación de órganos. 

Después de una primera sesión entusiasta, los residentes regresaron una semana después para certificar sus documentos ante un notario. Se completaron 14 documentos con la ayuda de nuestra voluntaria Jayne, así como el coordinador de iniciativas comunitarias de HSB, Julia Barrera, la trabajadora social de VNA Health, Edith Gonzalez, y la gerente de servicios sociales de Valle Verde, Dawna Cunha. 

¡Nuestro equipo está increíblemente emocionado de organizar aún más talleres de Planificación Anticipada de Atención Médica este año, y ayudar a nuestra comunidad a garantizar que sus deseos de atención médica sean respetados!

Many of you who follow The Conversation Project tell us how much you want it to be the norm to have more conversations about what matters to us. The good news is, you don’t have to wait for a celebrity endorsement to say that it’s time to share the way we want to live through the end of our lives. And you don’t need a big ad campaign to say that it’s important to communicate about the kind of care we want and don’t want for ourselves.

In fact, we know that people are more likely to be influenced by people close to them. So, who better to talk about the value in having these conversations…than you?

Muchos de ustedes que siguen The Conversation Project nos dicen cuánto quieren que sea la norma tener más conversaciones sobre lo que nos importa. La buena noticia es que no tiene que esperar el respaldo de una celebridad para decir que es hora de compartir la forma en que queremos vivir hasta el final de nuestras vidas. Y no necesita una gran campaña publicitaria para decir que es importante comunicar sobre el tipo de atención que queremos y no queremos para nosotros.
