Fresh fruits are one of summer's greatest pleasures, and the plants that bear them are a joy to grow year-round. Tart blackberries, ripe nectarines, juicy apples, buttery avocados, sweet blueberries, plump figs all of these and more can be grown in San Jose climates and the Bay Area more widely.

Featured Plants
Edible plants are a wonderful way to save money, add beauty to your landscape, and ensure that you're getting vitamins and minerals in your diet. From vibrant blueberry bushes to heat-loving dragonfruit to elegant drupe (stone fruit) trees and espaliers, there's something for every climate and taste.

Summer is an ideal time to select and plan your fruit garden, as we have bounteous quantities in stock and selection diminishes exiting the growing season. Please enjoy learning about some of our favorites below. All are currently in stock.
Hylocereus undatus
'Valdiva Roja' Dragonfruit
Long-limbed dragonfruit cactus are relatively easy to grow in hot climates, but do require patience.
- Sweet, deep red, kiwi-like flesh
- Large, night-blooming flowers
- Heat and cold tolerant (to 40F)
- Epiphytic: grow on trellis or tree
- Requires more rich, moist, well-draining soil than other cactus
Ficus carica 'Monandersen'
'Corky's Honey Delight' Fig
A semi-dwarf green fig that produces bountiful spring and summer fruit crops.
- Grows to 10'12' tall and wide
- Amber colored flesh with sweet honey and berry flavor notes
- Plant in direct sunlight
Vitis vinifera
'Flame Seedless' Grapes
Grapes add drama to a garden and will produce bountifully for years to come.
- Sweet, crisp purple variety
- Vigorous, fast-growing vine
- Plant in full sun, 78 hrs/day
- Harvest mid-autumn
Vaccinium corymbosum
'Bluecrop' Blueberry
Requires some care, but the rewards are oh-so-delicious: 10 to 20 lbs of berries per year.
- Shrub with sweet edible fruit for baking, preserving, snacking
- Self-fertilizing; but cross-pollinate varieties for best results
- Plant in moist, acidic, well-draining soil (adjust pH as needed)
Multi-Fruit Salad
A mix of peach, plum, nectarine and apricot plants grafted together onto one tree requires somewhat complex care.
- A practical choice for small areas
- Requires full, direct sun
- Stone fruit variety grows well in warmer climates
- Different fruits ripen throughout the summer
