SHOWING LOVE THROUGH MEDICAL GUIDANCE

PESA brings UCLA and LA Health Volunteers to LALA High School

Love is more than just a feeling; it's a commitment to caring for the people who matter most in our lives. That's why PESA has teamed up with UCLA and LA Health Volunteers to offer medical guidance to students who may need it at Los Angeles Leadership Academy (LALA).

Recently, 144 students from various classrooms at LALA had the opportunity to engage with LA Health Volunteers in a collaborative effort aimed at expanding support networks among schools across the Los Angeles area.

Jesus Gonzalez, PESA’s Assistant Director of Youth Services, highlighted the significance of pre-health college students connecting with high school students: "The fact that they traveled from UCLA to the Lincoln Heights area to mentor our students about the healthcare profession ... is a great way to empower our students this Valentines Day. This is something new and different."

During the event, students received valuable insights into various aspects of the medical field, including CPR training, blood pressure management, discussions on potential careers in medicine, mentorship opportunities, and the basics of pre-med programs. This conversation not only provided practical knowledge but also opened the doors to potential career paths and educational opportunities.

Gonzalez emphasized the importance of acquiring essential skills like CPR training, underscoring that such knowledge enables individuals to care for their loved ones in critical situations. He stated, "If you have a family member... who needs CPR, you now can have that training. That person who you care so much about, you can now check in on them and take care of them."

The collaboration between PESA, UCLA, Los Angeles Leadership Academy, and LA Health Volunteers exemplifies the power of community support and demonstrates how love can be expressed through actions aimed at safeguarding the well-being of others. By equipping students with essential medical knowledge and skills, this initiative not only fosters a culture of care but also empowers individuals to make a tangible difference in their lives and in the lives of their loved ones.
