Perkins Innovation and Modernization (PIM) Grant Program for Career-Connected High Schools Opportunity
The purpose of the Perkins Innovation and Modernization Grant Program is to “identify, support, and evaluate evidence-based and innovative strategies and activities to improve and modernize Career and Technical Education (CTE) and align workforce skills with labor market needs in CTE programs funded under the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006.”
With this FY 2023 competition, the U.S. Department of Education seeks to “support applicants that will build capacity among secondary education, postsecondary education, and workforce development systems to expand access to career-connected high school programs for more students.” Registered apprenticeship programs are among the activities eligible for funding, and nonprofit organizations (such as electrical apprenticeship programs associated with the electrical training ALLIANCE) are eligible as subgrantees. This is an incredible opportunity to fund Interim Credentials with Perkins funding! Would you like to have a set of NFPA 2023 Code Books for your classroom? Hardbound versions of the e-textbooks provided? Hands on materials or equipment to round out the curriculum? How about virtual reality headsets and VR lessons to practice job skills?
Proposals are due by October 13, 2023, but they must be submitted by an LEA, technical schools, community colleges, and/or state educational agencies. These funds can be used to purchase tools, equipment and consumables to provide supportive services, and to cover curricula costs.
