If you were not able to attend curriculum night, please contact your homeroom teacher to obtain information and materials you may have missed.

St. Louise Carpool Traffic Regulations

A friendly reminder to all families to review the carpool traffic regulations found on our school website at the following link: St. Louise Carpool Traffic Regulations

The top 3 Carpool Traffic Regulation Violations at St. Louise

  1. During Carpool hours, families are leaving campus in the opposite direction at the entrance of the church on 156th. During carpool, there is only ONE EXIT and that is on Main Street. The carpool flow is only in one direction. The one way exit also conforms to families that park in the South Lot by the Church, please exit ONLY through the Main Street fence.
  2. Too many families are SPEEDING through the Parking Lot. The speed limit is 5 MPH. Please SLOW DOWN for the safety of the children, faculty, staff, and parents.
  3. Families are not pulling up and are unloading a second time to just drop off their children closer to the building.

SAFETY IS OUR #1 PRIORITY – Please drive safely and follow the carpool traffic regulations.

Please save the date for the following Masses/Liturgies and Activities:

MAP Testing Begins

Monday, Sept. 18 - Friday, Oct. 6

Grades 2-7

MAP stands for Measures of Academic Progress. Also known as "MAP Growth," this is a three-part test that measures student knowledge in reading, language usage and mathematics. All students in grades 2 - 7 take the MAP Growth assessment each spring and fall at St. Louise and throughout most of the other Seattle Archdiocesan schools.

MAP measures your child's academic progress or growth. By having precise measurement of student achievement, teachers and parents are able to monitor academic progress. Each Measure of Academic Progress is made up of parts, which are called goals. These goals are closely aligned to reflect progress toward the standards. Below is a listing of the goal areas for each test.

READING

  • Word meaning
  • Literal comprehension
  • Interpretive comprehension
  • Evaluative comprehension

LANGUAGE ARTS

  • Writing Process
  • Grammar & usage
  • Conventions & mechanics

MATHEMATICS

  • Problem solving & reasoning
  • Number sense & operations
  • Algebraic concepts, processes, patterns, relations, functions
  • Geometry
  • Measurement
  • Data analysis, probability, statistics

When you, your child, and your child's teacher(s) look at MAP scores - which are shared each spring – it will help you all access which certain goal areas need more attention than others.

Scores depend on two things: how many questions are answered correctly and the difficulty of each question. The assessments will be taken on the computer and the difficulty of the test is adjusted to the student’s performance, so each student sees different test questions. The difficulty of each question is based on how well the student has answered the questions up to that point. As the student answers incorrectly, the questions become easier. If the student answers correctly, the questions become more difficult. Thus, some students may be doing well on the test, but because they sense the questions are becoming more difficult and they don't know all the answers (there will never by a student scoring 100%), these students might assume they are failing the test. Prior to the testing, students in each class will receive an explanation of how to do the testing, how a computerized adaptive test works, and how the results will be used.

As parents, you can improve the chances your child will perform to the best of his/her ability by:

  • Making sure your children get a good night's sleep prior to testing day and eat a filling breakfast the morning of testing.
  • Assuring your children that they will do fine on the test and motivating them to do their best so we can get a true assessment of academic strengths while also knowing which goals to establish for future learning.
  • Explaining to your children that test-taking should be taken seriously, but not pushing the seriousness all the way to test anxiety.
  • When you receive the MAP Growth results each spring, you can measure the growth of your child in essential skills. If a child needs help, you and the teachers know exactly what skills on which to focus. These tests will also give a long-range picture of a student's learning as he/she progresses through the grades.
  • If you have an overall question on MAP, please talk to Joellyn Jaster, who oversees our school's testing programs. If you have a question on your child's specific progress in reading, language arts, or math, please talk to the teacher.

A Message from Fr. Gary

Dear Friends at St. Louise,

Preaching and teaching the Good News is a major task for Catholics. One of the ways we carry this out is through our Catholic School system, which is the largest piece of the total budget for parishes with schools, because of the salaries and benefits that our teachers so rightly deserve (as do other parish employees). And when you think about it, most of our other parish programs have something to do with teaching people about the faith and how to put it into practice. In addition, we at St. Louise also are united with our sister parish and school, Ste Anne de Hyacinthe, Haiti, to which we provide financial support primarily for their parish school. On this Catechetical Sunday, we remember what a huge and wonderful enterprise of preaching and teaching we have taken on here at St. Louise.

A Message from Fr. Nehnevaj

Due to a variety of circumstances, I often find myself celebrating Mass by myself in the afternoon on Thursdays. For reasons on which I elaborate further in this weekend’s parish bulletin, this is not the ideal way in which Mass is meant to be celebrated. So, I wanted to extend an invitation to you, our school families, to join me for Mass on Thursdays after school.

A few logistical notes. First and foremost, this is not a parish initiative, nor is this a new Mass being added to the schedule of Masses at St. Louise; there is no guarantee that I will celebrate Mass every Thursday or that this will continue indefinitely. The plan is that if I am available, I will celebrate Mass at 3:30PM on Thursdays when school is in session, and if I am not available, then I will not. I would confirm that Mass will be celebrated on any given Thursday by sending out an email the Wednesday before. If you would like to receive these emails, please let me know by emailing me at fr.n@stlouise.org. I will also let you know when I celebrate Mass outside of the normal parish Mass schedule on Mondays or Saturdays or if I will be celebrating Mass at a different time on any given Thursday. There will be no homily at these Masses.

“From Mary we learn to surrender to God’s Will in all things.

From Mary we learn to trust even when all hope seems gone.

From Mary we learn to love Christ her Son and the Son of God!”

Author, Aliza Sokolow visited Monday morning with our first and second graders. Students enjoyed Aliza's presentation, especially the apple tasting! 🍎 All students received a signed copy of her book, “This is what I eat” about mindful eating, courtesy of the Library and the Waldron family.

Thank you Meghan Waldron for bringing this wonderful experience to St. Louise!
