Executive Director Update

If you haven’t heard the news, I’ve announced my retirement for May 1, 2024.

First, I want to say thank you to the Alliance Board of Directors, the Investors, all of our partners and the community for welcoming me and supporting the initiatives and ideas that have been our focus over the last six years. I’ve very much enjoyed working alongside the people and the thriving business community in the area.

Second, I want to emphasize that the work of the Alliance won’t skip a beat and will continue up until my retirement, and in the future with the next Executive Director. As we work towards a transition of leadership, we also have the support of the Lake Superior Community Partnership team, who will ensure a smooth process.

And finally, my reason for retiring is our 5-month-old grandson. My husband and I are looking forward to moving to South Bend, IN, where we can actively participate in his young life.

The Executive Director position is posted on the Alliance website at daeda.org/executive-director-dickinson-county. Please share the information with your networks to help us in the search.

Build U.P. Fund Informational Session on January 11

Build U.P. was created to offer tools and friendly terms to expedite the construction of shovel-ready housing projects across the Upper Peninsula. Since its launch just this summer those tools and terms have built a pipeline of dynamic developments across the U.P. But with available awards from the fund totaling up to $15 million, funding remains available for investment. As the intent is to quickly put the entirety of the fund to work to address the region’s immediate housing needs, Build U.P. is hosting informational sessions to reach its goal of fully committing all funding in 2024.

Please join Build U.P. Fund Manager Steve Arwood, former CEO of the MEDC, for any one of the one-hour informational sessions being held across the U.P. to learn more and answer any questions you may have about its application and terms.
