Why Greenlee County? The area offers diverse habitats to explore, with elevations ranging from 9,000 ft to 3,000 ft. We will explore from mid-elevation pine/conifer to riparian drainages filled with various oaks, Arizona Sycamore, and Manzanita-dominant mixed chaparral. Some of the expected species include Steller's and Mexican Jays, Acorn Woodpeckers, Hermit Thrush, Bridled Titmouse, White-breasted Nuthatch, Vermilion Flycatchers, and Verdins, among others. This is a great time of year to find eastern vagrants and Mexican species, alongside commonly expected species. We hope to add more data to the county and see rare birds!

AZFO Field Expeditions visit under-birded areas of the state to develop current data on bird species and distribution. Sign up and help our cause!

Mission accomplished! Our Annual Meeting

in Tucson September 26-29

To begin the weekend event, meeting participants attended workshops shared with the Western Bird Banding Association and took advantage of some "mini-expedition" birding trips, finishing the day with a get-together at Borderlands Brewery. On Saturday, about 120 participants gathered at Pima College for the main events, featuring a full day of excellent presentations, a knowledgeable keynote address, and the usual raffles, book sales, AZFO logo gear sales, quizzes, fellowship, and, of course, food and snacks. Before heading home, participants had several "mini-expedition" birding trips to join. Many, many thanks to our organizers and trip leaders for making the meeting and the expeditions possible - you did a terrific job!

Don't miss next year's Annual Meeting --

to be held in Phoenix, likely in the SE region, in October 2025.
