America Is Aging Into a Housing Crisis for Older Adults

"Since 2021, Wilson has welcomed young people for short-term stays through a home-sharing program run by St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center, a 55-year-old Baltimore-based nonprofit that provides affordable housing and services for low-income residents. Many of St. Ambrose’s clients are older people who have rented or owned their homes for decades. Some need accessibility upgrades like grab bars or lifts as they age; others, like Wilson, are struggling to keep up with their housing costs on a fixed income ..."

Republican, Democratic leaders highlight efforts to rein in

destructive discourse at state Capitol

"Colorado's top Republican and Democratic legislative leaders offered a unified front against what they described as the rising tide of destructive discourse that's been creeping up at the state Capitol during a forum on Friday. The legislative breakfast at the Warwick Hotel was sponsored by Colorado Politics, the Denver Gazette and AARP of Colorado. With the special session done, Colorado’s next tax debate is already starting

"Colorado’s special legislative session took four days to finish and affected hundreds of millions of dollars of taxes — but only for next year. New proposal would take Wall Street out of housing market

"Democrats in Congress have introduced a bill in both houses of Congress on Tuesday to ban hedge funds from buying and owning single-family homes in the United States. The bill would require hedge funds, defined as corporations, partnerships or real estate investment trusts that manage funds pooled from investors, to sell off all the single-family homes they own over a 10-year period and eventually prohibit such companies from owning any single-family homes at all. During the decade long phaseout period, the bill would impose stiff tax penalties, with the proceeds reserved for down-payment assistance for individuals looking to buy homes from corporate owners ..."

Colorado workers can apply for paid family and medical leave

through new online portal

"Most Colorado workers will be eligible for paid family leave starting Jan. 1, 2024. The Family & Medical Leave Insurance program, approved by voters in 2020, will partially replace workers’ wages while they go on leave for childbirth, adoption, serious health conditions, and more. It was the first time that voters in any state have been asked to decide on a paid leave law. The measure is funded by premiums equal to about 0.9 percent of a worker’s wages, although that could rise to 1.2 percent. Workers and employers are generally expected to split the cost. The program started collecting fees this year and the benefits start in the new year ..." - READ MORE
