VISIT WITH AUTHOR JASON REYNOLDS

Stedman 5th Graders were lucky enough to be invited to hear from New York bestselling author Jason Reynolds today at McAuliffe. They heard many inspiring words and received a free, signed book from the author! (View clips from his remarks in today's news)

CELL PHONE POLICY

Cell Phones

I urge families, if at all possible, to please keep student phones at home during the school day. However, we understand that some students must bring cell phones to school as a method of communicating with family members outside of school hours. As the number of students carrying cell phones increases, so does the potential for lost or stolen phones. In order to maintain the integrity of the learning environment and secure storage of students’ personal items, students must check cell phones in and out with the classroom teacher each day. The teacher will collect cell phones at the beginning of the day, store them safely (locked in their cabinet) and return them at the end of the day. Parents wishing to contact their student must relay a message through the main office. Students are able to ask permission from a teacher/staff member to call a parent/guardian from a school phone during the day.

In honor of our students meeting Jason Reynolds, we wanted to point out that many of his books tackle big topics in accessible ways. If you've never checked out Stamped, the YA version that Mr. Reynolds contributed to is an excellent resource on Anti-racism. His fiction books are always great sources for conversation starters and provoking thought.
