Province introduces short-term rental legislation

The Province has introduced legislation that will support local government regulation of short-term rentals, increase allowable fines, and establish a provincial registry and enforcement unit. Legislative Amendments Related to Policing Transitions

The provincial government has introduced amendments to the Police Act that will impact the policing transition process, and broader municipal authority for providing policing and law enforcement services in communities over 5,000 in population. Additional amendments relate specifically to policing in the City of Surrey.

Input Sought on new Disaster Financial Assistance regulation

The new Emergency and Disaster Management Act authorizes the Province to declare when an event is eligible for financial assistance, with details to be outlined through a regulation. As part of work to develop a modernized financial assistance regulation, the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness has released a discussion paper and series of questions for stakeholders to consider. Feedback is due by December 31, 2023.

Active Transportation Planning grant intake now open

Applications are now being accepted for the 2024 intake of the Active Transportation Planning program. Local governments with a population up to 25,000 that meet the grant criteria are eligible for up to $20,000 toward active transportation planning costs. The deadline for applications is February 9, 2024.
