SJPDS Book Fair Next Week

December 11 - December 15

The SJPDS Book Fair is only a few days away! Next week, students will be able to shop in-person at designated times with their class! Parents may shop before their child's Christmas concert or after school on Wednesday, December 13th from 3:30-4:30pm. We do accept credit cards and cash, but we strongly encourage you to set up your child's eWallet account for cashless, stress-free shopping! It's the easiest way for students to shop and keep track of their money. Friends and family can even contribute funds! To set up your students eWallet, click HERE!

To learn more about the benefits of using the eWallet, you can watch THIS brief video.

You may begin shopping online starting December 8th, and continue to shop online until December 21st!  All purchases through the Book Fair support our school and help your child's love of reading grow! Thank you!

We still need volunteers to help during shopping hours! To volunteer as a Book Fair volunteer, sign up today by clicking HERE!

SJPDS Winter Enrichment

Registration Now Open!

SJPDS is excited to announce our Winter Enrichment offerings! Registration will be available soon for our upcoming opportunities!

Chess Wizards Winter Session 2024- Chess Wizards is a premier chess education company providing fun, informative and challenging chess lessons to students. Chess Wizards teaches children many important life concepts, such as learning the ability to win graciously and accept defeat with dignity and sportsmanship. Students will be divided into groups according to their chess experience. At the end of this session, each student will have had the chance to participate in a mini-chess tournament.

Early Elementary Coding Global Challenge with Mrs. Wilkins - The Sphero Global Challenge is a STEM competition that takes place virtually around the world each year. Students in grades EC 4, Transitional Kindergarten, and Kindergarten are invited to join Mrs. Wilkins in this enrichment opportunity, which will inspire students to become coding masterminds, ingenious problem solvers, and collaborative team players. The Undercover Indi Event engages early elementary students in a covert operation, tasking them with creating a cunning disguise, crafting a cryptic message, and plotting a stealthy path for our robot friend, Indi.

Exploring Nature: Below Zero Science- Have you ever wondered how arctic animals stay warm in the snow? Or why it snows in the winter? If so, join Ms. Thomas and Ms. Valkanas for hands-on investigations all about winter! We will explore ice/snow and winter weather, arctic animals, and other cold things! We will also have some creative crafting time to make our own snowflakes and snowmen to take home!

Spanish Enrichment: Canta- Baila Kid- “Canta - Baila Kid” is the Spanish enrichment program for students in 2nd through 5th Grade to continue learning and growing their Spanish skills. Students will be learning Salsa, Bachata, and traditional Mexican as well as an Intro to basic Flamenco steps (footwork). Students will also learn Spanish songs to support speaking fluently. Students will enrich their cultural knowledge of the Spanish-speaking world through dance and song activities in a fun, immersion environment. Professor Manuel will challenge each child at his/her unique ability level.

Toy Drive for Collington Square

Now Through December 15th

SJPDS is continuing our partnership with Collington Square and conducting our Annual Toy Drive! We will be collecting unwrapped toys that will be distributed to the families in need in Baltimore. Your teachers have sent out specific wants and needs for their class's assigned families. We are incredibly fortunate to be able to give back to those in need and appreciate all of your generosity and kindness. Our SJPDS community is an incredible group and we appreciate all of your support!

CAMPUS NEWS

STEM Project Benefitting Collington Square

Over the past few weeks, Mrs. Wilkins (STEM and Information Technology Coordinator) has been working with our 4th Grade students to create warm hats to supply the families at Collington Square! Our students formed their very own assembly line and worked together to perform different tasks to create warm fleece hats! Each student was given a specific job - to cut fabric, sew fabric, monitor the floor, quality control, and assembly- and took turns learning each role. Before winter break, we will deliver their homemade hats to Collington Square to distribute to people in need.

It's so important to teach our students to give back to their community and help them make a difference a we lean into our mission to always be active stewards of our world. 'Tis the season of giving and we're so proud of our Bears and all of their hard work!

Congratulations to SJPDS Girls on the Run!

Our chapter of Girls on the Run (GOTR) has had an incredible season! They've been working hard and have come so far since the season first started. The girls have practiced and trained for months and wrapped up their running season with a 5K through Ellicott City! Our Bears braved the cold weather and went the distance to complete their race! We are so proud of our GOTR participants. Way to Go!
