Lutheran World Relief--Personal Care Kit

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Our annual personal care kit project for Lutheran World Relief reminds us of our many blessings and a way that we can be a blessing to others.  Currently, one of our members has agreed to match the first $3,000 donated by the congregation.  Due to the rising costs of supplies for these kits,  we need to match this generous offer but also exceed it. Please make your check payable to SAKLC and enter LWR in the memo section then place it in the Sunday offering.  You can also help by donating bath size bars of soap, combs, or toothbrushes. There is a large basket in the Narthex for your donations.

Our goal once again is to assemble 1000 Personal Care Kits (PCK’s). This year we will be assembling and packing the care kits on Saturday, February 3rd, starting at 9:00am, in the fellowship hall. We will need help loading the truck on Friday, February 9th at 9:00 am. If you would like to help either days, please sign up on the sheet in the Narthex.

ARE YOU READY FOR THE SOUPER BOWL?

Once again, SAKLC will collect funds and food for the Souper Bowl of Caring. On two Sundays, February 4^th and 11^th, look for the soup pots and table in the narthex to make your donation. If you prefer, you can donate by using the link below. Please choose “Community Service Ministry” and specify in the memo line “Souper Bowl”.

Funds will be divided equally between All Faiths Food Bank and ELCA World Hunger. Non-perishable food items (no glass, please) will be given to the Youth Shelter and Second Chance Last Opportunity.

Can we beat last year’s collection of $2,500 and 378 food items? I’m sure we can, because you’re SOUPER!

AV Tech Advisory Team Update

Have you had a chance to complete the new AV Technology Survey? Did you know it only takes a few minutes to complete? The Av Technology Advisory Team would like to hear from you. We want to know more about your experiences with using the AV Technology at SAKLC. This can Include online worship, events, activities or meetings. We especially want to hear from our seasonal members who rely on remote access while away. This information will be a key element in our efforts to update and improve our AV technology. Thank you in advance or your feedback.

Movement and Gratitude Exercise Class

Please join us on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:00am for exercise class in Ogram Hall or on Zoom. Our instructor, Karri Weber, is happy to answer any questions you might have. Please contact her at 708-224-1987 or karriweber@gmail.com.

Class description below:

Functional movement for is the mission! With a mix of of joint fluidity and stability utilizing low impact aerobics, strengthening, stretching and body movement to feel good music. Light inviting atmosphere filled with laughter and joy. Focus is on injury prevention and connecting to the body. This class also incorporates improving balance and range of motion. A low intensity but high efficiency well-rounded workout with a warm and uplifting atmosphere! 

Modifications and use of chairs optional! Class is especially geared towards seniors but all ages and degrees of health are welcome!

Women’s Bible Study 

On the following Tuesdays at 10:30, we'll meet in the Conference Room to discuss women in the Bible. All women are welcome. 

January 30th - Hannah, Samuel's mother.

February 6th, to discuss Miriam, Moses' sister

February 13th, to discuss Esther, who saved God's people. 

February 27th, to discuss Michal, daughter of Saul, David's first wife. 

Women’s Book Group 

February Book Group will meet in Ogram Hall on Tuesday, February 20th at 10:30 to discuss HORSE, by Geraldine Brooks. 

Name Tags Have Arrived!

If you’ve ordered a name tag, they are hanging on the name tag wall outside of the sanctuary. Don’t forget to wear your name tag on Sundays in order to get to know your neighbor! If you still need a name tag, please contact Nina at nina@saklc.com or at 941-388-1234.

In Need of Medical Equipment?

Are you in need of medical equipment? We often get requests from members and friends who are looking for something to borrow for a short period during recovery. Contact the Church Office if you have any medical equipments needs.

Interested in sponsoring Altar Flowers? The 2024 Flower Calendar is now in the Narthex. The following dates are in need of sponsors in the month of January and February:

The October, November, December edition of Christ in Our Home is available. They will be at the Welcome Desk in the Narthex and in the church office to be picked up. Weekly devotions will also be available to read in the weekend edition of Connections.
