Carbon Market Alliance Established for Central Africa

The event, hosted in Yaoundé, Cameroon, was co-organized by the Regional Collaboration Centre for West and Central Africa (RCC WAC Africa) and other institutions in Central Africa.


It provided the opportunity for relevant stakeholders to learn about cooperative approaches under the Paris Agreement, share experiences, and promote the creation of the Central African Alliance for Climate Finance and Carbon Markets.


The Alliance will coordinate and promote activities that stimulate the participation of countries in Central Africa in carbon markets and carbon pricing.

Article 6 Framework Design Workshop Held in Nigeria

During the two-day workshop, representatives from diverse government agencies and the private sector participated in thorough discussions, aiming to equip attendees with knowledge and understanding of the Article 6 mechanism.


The workshop also sought to contribute to key decision points in the development and implementation of a functional carbon market framework in Nigeria.

The Regional Collaboration Centre for West and Central Africa (RCC WAC Africa) delivered opening remarks and provided technical guidance during the workshop

75% of West African Countries Intend to Use Carbon Pricing Instruments 


A new study by the Regional Collaboration Centre for West and Central Africa (RCC WAC Africa) revealed that a growing number of West African countries have expressed intentions to use carbon pricing instruments.


Such interest is still at embryonic stage for the region and the focus of many West African countries at present remains on the carbon tax solution.


The study provides the RCC with insight in designing country-specific support to help countries develop tailor-made and country-owned instruments that fit their specific national circumstances

Acting as a central hub, "State of Adaptation Action by Parties" web portal aims to improve understanding, recognize efforts, promote learning, and contribute to global adaptation progress tracking.

High-Level Climate Champions


Meet the COP29 High-Level Champion.


Ms. Nigar Arpadarai has been appointed as the High Level Champion of COP 29 Presidency (Azerbaijan).


Together with COP28 High-Level Champion – Ms. Razan Al Mubarak, the two High-Level Champions will continue mobilizing stronger and more ambitious climate action with the Marrakech Partnership, taking into consideration the first Global Stocktake's outcome.

The High-Level Champions and the Marrakech Partnership launched the 2030 Climate Solutions during COP28 in Dubai.


The 2030 Climate Solutions highlight the specific actions that must be implemented on the seven-year sprint from now to 2030 to limit warming to 1.5°C, build resilience, implement adaptation actions and mobilize means of implementation (finance, capacity building and technology) at scale.
