 Our team is growing! Welcome to the newest members of the Resilient Georgia team.
  • Kathryn Chambers, Special Projects Coordinator who helms administrative functions, including special events and projects and website management.
  • Cheyianne Johnson, Office Manager who organizes and manages finance, accounting, donor management and operations.

What's new: We hosted our first General Meeting of 2023 on April 13, "Trauma Informed Innovation in Healthcare."

  • Developing a trauma-informed pediatric practice providing integrated behavioral and physical primary healthcare delivery;
  • Introducing the trauma-informed Life Care Specialist program to help address the challenge of opioid misuse in rural and urban communities; and
  • An example of trauma-informed care in action with the co-responder behavioral health unit delivered in partnership with law enforcement.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month
What's new: To help raise awareness of child abuse prevention efforts and strategies, the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy Prevention and Education Department is hosting the 3rd annual “Prevention Palooza.” They are hosting one training each weekday during April. All trainings are FREE and virtual.

New Hispanic/Latinx resources
What's new: Resilient Georgia recently launched a new Hispanic/Latinx Mental Health Resource Page. The page includes national, state, and local organizations that offer culturally relevant care and community building opportunities.

Why it matters: These organizations are connecting Hispanic/Latinx communities to culturally relevant care and to each other, helping to strengthen community resiliency.
Physician heal thyself
What's new: This new blog post from Jevon Gibson at Community Health Solutions poignantly describes healing from grief after the death of his mother.

Why it matters: Your purpose and your calling hang in the balance of your healing. While the process is arduous, it is vital to your own survival.

Supporting Infant and Early Childroom Professionals and Community Resilience
What's new: Resilient Georgia and the Center for Interrelational Science and Pediatrics recently received a Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning Community Transformation Grant to launch an Infant and Early Childhood Professional Development Course and Guidebook. 

Go deeper: Read more about our efforts to expand the number of Community Resiliency Model (CRM)-trained early childhood care and education (ECCE) professionals and early interventionists working with children birth-to-five in Georgia.
Children's and Mercer join forces
What's new: Mercer University School of Medicine (MUSM) and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Children's) announced they will be working together to launch a major initiative focused on improving pediatric health care in rural Georgia.

What it means:
Proposed rural health care pilots and projects include:
  • Helping rural hospitals be “Kid Ready” in emergency departments
  • Supporting rural pediatricians with training and resources
  • Expanding behavioral and mental health support 
Go deeper:  MUSM and Children’s will work with schools, pediatricians and hospitals to develop a comprehensive approach to pediatric mental health in two communities with virtual mental health services and a focus on suicide awareness and prevention.

  • Congratulations to our partners with new roles at GCAPP. Angel Young is now the Director of Community Based Initiatives and Dion Walker-Smith is the Director of School Based Initiatives.

  • Shout out to Meredith Lysaught for being named the Strategic Philanthropy Program Manager at Athens Area Community Foundation.

  • Resilient North Georgia welcomed their new Community Partnerships and Training Manager, Kelly Perez.

  • Resilient Southwest Georgia (Thomasville) welcomed their new Training & Development Manager, Quandolyn Grant.

  • Resilient Georgia is hosting Patient-Centered Mental Health in Pediatric Primary Care (PPP), a dynamic 2.5 day, 16.25-hour interactive course for primary care clinicians focused on building skills and confidence in diagnosing and treating pediatric behavioral health problems. Check out upcoming training in Columbus, Ga. May 19-21.

  • GA SPEAK UP Implicit and Explicit Bias Training for healthcare providers will take place May 11 and 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Register here for this FREE, virtual training.

  • The 2023 Mental Health America Conference is happening June 8-10 in Washington D.C. Don’t miss out this year on the opportunity to learn from some of the brightest minds in the field, connect with like-minded individuals, and gain valuable insights and strategies for improving next generation mental health.

  • Emily Anne is grateful for everyone who joined our first General Meeting of 2023 last week. Together, we are truly building a more Resilient Georgia!

  • Audrey enjoyed the eye-opening discussion at our recent lunch and learn with Be SMART. Upcoming dates and recordings of previous Lunch and Learns can be found here...and join us!

  • Neha and her family discovered the positive benefits of hiking for mental health during the pandemic. She recently joined the Chattahoochee National Park Conservancy Board as a new Board member to help protect and preserve the trails by the Chattahoochee River for generations to come.

  • Kathryn is looking forward to our PPP training May 19-21 and a visit to Columbus, Ga.

  • Cheyianne is looking forward to Atlanta's spring bloom with unlimited options for festivals, loads of sunshine and fun hikes. She's also participating in the numerous trainings and webinars around Child Abuse Prevention Month.
