An Election Week Prayer and Benediction
Holy God,
We are thankful for the privilege and responsibility of voting.
May our faith in you guide us as we cast our ballots this week.
When we feel anxious about anything,
let us make our requests known to you by prayer and supplication
and with thanksgiving.
Calm our hearts and minds, O God,
and rest your spirit of peace upon our nation,
so that we may treat one another with care and respect.
Protect the candidates at each level of elected office
as well as all the people of this country from violence of any kind.
In the uncertainty of these days, graciously guide us and our fellow Americans
into a future you already know.
Bless our nation and let us be a blessing to the nations of the world, leading in a way that promotes peace, justice, and freedom.
Above all, O God, remind us that no matter the outcome of any election,
Jesus Christ is Lord.
His kingdom of peace and justice cannot be contained.
Christ is the one to whom we pledge our utmost loyalty,
the one whose name is about every name,
the one who is our Savior, our Redeemer, and our Friend.
And in whose name we pray. Amen.
Benediction
Finally, brothers and sisters,
whatever is true,
whatever is honorable,
whatever is just,
whatever is pure,
whatever is pleasing,
whatever is commendable,
if there is any excellence
and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
And may the peace of Christ which passes all understanding guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
