THE METHODIST MESSENGER

Making disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly.

Dear First Family,

I thought I would share with the thoughts of C.H. Spurgeon, who wrote in a devotional about the generosity of God.

God is wonderfully generous by nature; to give is His delight. His gifts are immeasurably precious and are given as freely as the light of the sun. He gives grace to His own because He wills it, to His redeemed because of His covenant, to the called because of His promise, to believers because they seek it, to sinners because they need it. He gives grace abundantly, seasonably, constantly, readily, sovereignly; the value of the blessings is doubled by the manner in which it is given.

Grace in all its forms He freely supplies to His people: Comforting, preserving, sanctifying, directing, instructing, assisting grace He generously and constantly pours into their souls, and He will always do so, whatever may happen. Sickness may come, but the Lord will give grace; poverty may descend on us, but grace will definitely be supplied; death must come, but grace will light a candle in the darkest hour.”

How blessed we are as years roll on. Soon the trees will bud again and very soon it will be Easter. My prayer is that we will all see and receive God’s blessings each and every day.  May we continue in our growth to Christian maturity, learning to have the generous and loving character of our Lord.

DID YOU KNOW?

The Seder is the meal that Jesus celebrated with his disciples before going out to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. Order and ritual are very important in the seder—so important that they are even reflected in its name: the English word seder is a transliteration of the Hebrew word sēdher, meaning “order.” The courses in the meal, as well as blessings, prayers, stories, and songs, are recorded in the Haggadah, a book that lays out the order of the Passover feast and recounts the story of Exodus. Each food consumed as part of the seder recalls an aspect of the Israelites (13th century BC) exodus from Egypt. For instance, matzo (unleavened bread) represents the haste with which the Israelites fled.

Join us March 28th at 6 PM, for our own celebration of the Passover Seder. For us to be fully prepared for this meaningful celebration we must know that you are coming in order that tables may be set appropriately and so that the caterer will know how much food to prepare.  Call the church office to make your reservations. This is a family friendly event and will also be open to the community to make reservations.  Sing the songs, pray the prayers, enjoy the food and fellowship and gain a deeper understanding of the story of Exodus and God’s command to always and forever have a festival meal celebrating God ‘s power in leading Israel from slavery to freedom.

"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then vanished away." James 4:14

All of us have either experienced in our own life, or in the lives of others who are close to us, times when all of a sudden, something happened, and we did not know whether we, or our loved one or friend, would survive. What a comfort it is to know that our preparation has been made, and we have no reason to worry about our eternal destiny. The price has been paid - not by us, but by our Savior. Whatever happens, if we have invited Him into our life and asked Him to forgive us of our sins, we will be just fine. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for dying on a cross for my sins and giving me the assurance of everlasting life with Thee. Amen
