March 2024 Newsletter
Hello SSEF Families, Alumni & Friends,
It's hard to believe we are already in March! As we enter the final stretch of our competitive season, the SSEF Board wishes all of our competitors success in their respective end of season championships.

February was marked by our annual Banff Film Festival, one of our longest running fundraisers. A huge thank you to our partners at Banff and our lead volunteers, Janifer Larson and Carla Hau and all of the volunteers who supported. We also said farewell to long-time board member Christina Arvindson, who served SSEF for the past 5 years, most recently filling a role on the Executive Committee as the Secretary. We are thankful for her years of service.

We are seeking new members to join the SSEF Board. Not sure what the Board does, want to learn more about the work of the Board and what it means to serve either on the Board or in service on one of our committees? We encourage you to join us for a Zoom information session on Monday March 18th, at 7PM.

If you aren't able to join, you can still get involved - email us jen@snowbasinskiteam.org or matthew@snowbasinskiteam.org to learn more.
Butch Hoffman Memorial Success
What an amazing race weekend! The inaugural Butch Hoffman South Series race was pure magic. Watching all the athletes step up their game was inspiring and we have the photos to prove it! A parent-volunteer captured all the racers coming down the hill and we're offering the photos as a fundraiser to support our Snowbasin Ski Team. CLICK THE RACER PHOTO to PURCHASE.
Our very own Coach Scotty taking the first run in recognition of his father Butch Hoffman. Thank you to the Hoffman Family for their presence at our event and to Scotty & Heidi for handing out the awards to our podium finishers.
Ray Miller Memorial ~ YSL Finals
March 9 & 10, 2024
The Snowbasin Ski Team is excited to announce the launch of the first inaugural Ray Miller Memorial race. This race is a tribute to Ray Miller, a legendary coach who embodied the values of our ski team. Ray was a coach who had the ability to connect with every athlete and provide them with the necessary motivation to reach their personal best. He was also passionate about keeping the sport affordable for parents of athletes. Through this race, we aim to continue Ray's legacy and inspire young athletes to strive for their best selves. Join us as we honor Ray Miller with this special race.
Alpine Race
The Snowbasin Ski Team athletes have shown their dedication and commitment in the first qualifying races for the Youth Ski League, South Series, U14s, U16s and U18s. The coaching staff, parents, and fellow teammates have been a great support system for these athletes who have been working hard to improve themselves. In the heart of our ski racing season, the team is focusing on the little things that matter, including mindset, rest, nutrition, hydration, and ski tuning. The team is also emphasizing the importance of helping each other out and self-reflecting on drills to strive for mastery. The Alpine Training System recommends 50-80% coached freeskiing and drills for the development phases of their age groups, and the team plans to take advantage of powder days to focus on proper form, increase endurance and overall balance. Congratulations to the Snowbasin Ski Team athletes for their impressive performance in these qualifying races, and we look forward to seeing their continued success this season.

Skills Quest Assessment
March 23, 2024
Skills Quest is a training system that helps develop solid fundamentals to create great skiers. It can also be used for Fitness, race development or as an assessment tool to measure an athlete's skiing skills. It provides a more objective-based measurement of skills, which can be tracked over time. Mikaela Shiffrin is a SkillsQuest athlete.

SkillsQuest is comprised of a progressive set of drills covering each of the major fundamental skills of skiing such as balance, edging, rotary, and pressure (B.E.R.P.) that are appropriate based on age and experience in the sport.

The Snowbasin Ski Team uses Skills Quest as a tool to help create our teams for the next seasonal year. This year's Skills Quest day will be Saturday, March 23rd. Check in 8:15am. Conclusion approx 11:30am.
Registration is required.
Member COST: FREE for current members.
Non-Members COST: $45 fee for those looking to be evaluated for team placement next season.

'23-'24 Snowbasin Ski Team Yearbook
With the help of a very talented, creative, and committed team parent, Katie Schall, we are in the process of putting together a Snowbasin Ski Team Yearbook which is currently on sale at our Ski Team Website. The price for the yearbook is $24 and will include the individual pictures of all our athletes (taken on team photo day) from the Devo, Alpine, and Freeride programs as well as a ton of action photos taken throughout the season. This is a great keepsake for all our athletes and parents to capture memories of the season in pictures.
