Dean's Update: Assessment in Libraries
For several decades now, assessment has been a popular target in higher education, and librarians are not exempt from the draw of assessment. We manage this in a number of ways and the February issue of our newsletter nicely highlights some of the Libraries' most current assessment activities.
Professional conferences for librarians continue to focus on such assessment themes as performance measures and metrics, evaluation of student information literacy, qualitative and quantitative methods in libraries, and evidence based practices. Several of these conferences and meetings have taken place for over 15 years, attracting hundreds of researchers and practitioners. I am excited to share that a bid recently submitted by Libraries staff resulted in an invitation for Drexel to host the International Evidence Based Library and Information Practice 9th Conference [EBLIP9] in Philadelphia in June 2017.
Drexel Wins Bid to Host International Library Assessment Conference EBLIP 9
EBLIP9, the ninth in the successful series of international conferences to promote evidence based approaches to library and information practice, has been awarded to Philadelphia, USA.
Assessing Information Literacy
At Drexel there are 12 Student Learning Priorities. These DSLPs identify educational goals at the center of every student's experience. They range from communication to responsible citizenship, but it is the priority of Information Literacy that is at the heart of the Libraries' mission.  The Libraries teach and support Information Literacy in many ways, but how does one assess these efforts?

Data Driven Management Enhances Libraries Collections
The combination of rising costs for information resources and the growing span of Drexel's academic programs requires attentive balancing of the Libraries collections budget.  Recently the Libraries have launched a Data Driven Management program which is providing greater capability for analysis of collections data to aid us in making collections decisions.
