Memorial for Navy SEAL Gage Ingram this Saturday

The family of U.S. Navy SEAL and Byron Nelson High School alumnus Nathan Gage Ingram will host a memorial service in remembrance of his life beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 10, at Northwest ISD Stadium, with gates opening at 8:30 a.m. Family and friends invite members of the public to join the celebration of SO2 Ingram’s life at the memorial, which will be supported by the U.S. Navy.


Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Gage Ingram sacrificed his life on January 11 off the coast of Somalia during an elite raid of a vessel smuggling missile components to attack peaceful ships.


While the family invites public attendance to honor SO2 Ingram, please be aware that the use of electronic devices will be strictly prohibited during the event. Additionally, the event will use the district standard clear bag requirements in effect at varsity football games. Clear totes and small clutches meeting this requirement will be the only bags allowed in the stadium. Attendees are welcome to bring clear bottled water, but no other food or drink is permitted.

HBCU Night is tonight

Northwest ISD, in partnership with Keller ISD, is hosting a Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU) Night on Thursday, February 8, at Eaton High School (1350 Eagle Blvd., Haslet, TX 76052) at 6:30 p.m.


The event is open to the public and free for anyone to attend. It will start with an alumni panel which will be followed by a college fair. Attendees will connect with HBCU alumni, attend parent informational breakout sessions, learn about traditionally black sororities and fraternities, discover potential scholarships and talk to HBCU admissions representatives.

Mobile Food Pantry location changed

Due to construction in the area, the NISD monthly Mobile Food Pantry is changing location and implementing a drive-thru service. Beginning on February 17, the monthly food pantry will move to the NISD Temporary Administration Building (2001 Texan Drive, Justin TX 76247). This is located next door to the previous location which is now a construction zone.


Attendees should enter Texan Drive from FM 156 (rather than TX 114) as traffic will not be allowed to turn left from Texan Drive into the food pantry location. More details can be found on this map. For more information, visit www.nisdtx.org.


The Mobile Food Pantry is a partnership between Northwest ISD, Tarrant Area Food Bank and the Northwest ISD Education Foundation. It is open on the third Saturday of each month from 9 to 11 a.m. or until food runs out.

No school for students and staff on February 19

In observance of Presidents' Day, Northwest ISD would like to remind you that Monday, February 19, is a student and staff holiday. All NISD schools and offices will be closed. School will resume, on regular bell schedules, on Tuesday, February 20.

Annually, Northwest ISD's EXPO showcase celebrates future-ready learning by involving students, teachers and the community in an exhibition of Northwest ISD’s innovative and inspiring educational opportunities. The event gives students the chance to shine as they fine tune their presentation skills and communicate their innovative ideas in a variety of ways.


Combined with culinary arts, photography, orchestra, career and technology pathways and other groups across the district, EXPO 2024 is sure to be an unforgettable night.


Please join us as we celebrate our student achievements on February 29, at Byron Nelson High School, located at 2775 Bobcat Boulevard in Trophy Club.

Free or Reduced-Price Meals

Applications for 2023-2024 are still available! If you are new to the district or if your financial situation has changed, you may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Complete your application today!

 

Meal Payment Options

School cafeterias accept cash and check payments. Payments may be sent to your child’s school to be deposited into his/her account. Credit cards are accepted online through My School Bucks, but payments take 24 hours to appear on your child’s meal account.


At My School Bucks, parents may access their child’s meal account online, view payment balances and apply money using a Visa or MasterCard. Online payments will be charged a convenience fee of $2.49 per transaction.

 

How to create a My School Bucks Account:

  • Go to www.myschoolbucks.com.
  • Create a user profile by clicking on the “Start Here” button on the home page.
  • Add students to your household - you will need the child’s name, birth date and student ID.

 

A la carte Entrée Price Increase

NISD high schools in same UIL district for first time

The University Interscholastic League announced the tentative 2024-25 and 2025-26 football, basketball, and volleyball district assignments on Thursday, February 1, dividing schools based on their total school enrollment.


Byron Nelson High School, V.R. Eaton High School and Northwest High School are all set to play in the same 6A athletic district for the next two years. This will mark the first time that all three Northwest ISD comprehensive high schools have competed in the same district.


As a result of the realignment process, Byron Nelson and Eaton high schools will remain in the same 6A district with Northwest High School now joining them. The three schools are scheduled to compete in District 4-6A for the next two school years. Click to read more and see who is joining the NISD trio in the district.

Steele ECHS student makes history at UIL Congress

For the first time since the school was founded in 2010, a Steele Early College High School student represented the Stallions at a UIL state-level competition as sophomore Julius Strawther competed in the UIL Congress State Championships in January.


Julius, who placed third at the ESC Region 11 Congress in November, was joined in Austin by freshman Sam Dominguez and sophomore Preston Nnadi who were alternates for the competition after finishing sixth and eighth at the regional event, respectively.

Inaugural Night of Stars showcases theatre talent

Northwest ISD’s inaugural Night of Stars was a huge success as the district’s theatre programs walked the red carpet and gathered for a night of celebration on Saturday, February 3, at the Byron Nelson Performing Arts Center. 


Similar to the NISD band, dance and cheer showcases, Night of Stars showcased the talents and efforts of theatre students from throughout Northwest ISD. The show featured performances from each of this year’s NISD musicals, including Matilda (Northwest HS), Tuck Everlasting (Byron Nelson HS) and High School Musical (Eaton HS).


Numerous awards were given throughout the night, ranging from Excellence in Marketing to Excellence in Hair & Makeup to Best Performer in a Lead Role. The night was capped with Tuck Everlasting taking home NISD’s inaugural Best Musical award.

23 NISD student-athletes sign to compete in college

Northwest ISD recognized 23 student-athletes from Byron Nelson, Eaton and Northwest high schools in National Signing Day ceremonies on Wednesday, February 7, as the students signified their intent to play collegiate sports and continue their academic pursuits. A full list of students, and links to photos, can be found here.


In total in 2023-2024, 54 NISD student-athletes have signed to play collegiate sports with 26 being recognized in November and five being recognized in December.

Teacher Interview Fair set for March 21

Northwest ISD will host a Teacher Interview Fair from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, where quality teacher applicants can attend an event to meet district administrators and have interviews.


Because this is an invitation-only event, interested individuals must complete an employment application and apply to the interview fair at this link. Qualified candidates will receive additional information and details.

NEF now accepting scholarship applications

The Northwest ISD Education Foundation has opened its student scholarship application, providing graduating seniors from the district with the opportunity to apply for dozens of scholarships. This year, NEF will award more than $160,000!


The application is open to all graduating seniors in Northwest ISD who plan to enroll in an accredited institution in the summer or fall of 2024. Accredited institutions include private or community college, private or public universities, military academies, and vocational or trade school.


The online application, which will remain open through Thursday, February 29, is available at the foundation’s website, www.nisdtx.org/nef. Applicants should review the scholarship policy and information guide prior to starting the application.

NEF Cornhole Tournament this Saturday

Join the Northwest ISD Education Foundation for a fun day of cornhole competition to raise funds for teachers and students in Northwest ISD! The tournament is Saturday, February 10 at the Mule Barn in Justin.

Help restock immediate needs in the NEF Resource Store and Library

The Northwest ISD Education Foundation’s resource store and library provides support to NISD teachers and students through free resources and educational materials. NISD teachers can “shop” for school and classroom supplies, snack packs, books and more. All items are free to district educators! This school year, NEF has served more than 940 educators from across the district!

 

You can help by donating from the store’s online wishlist. Immediate needs include wide-ruled composition notebooks, snacks, pencil boxes, rulers, calculators, index cards and books. You can also help by volunteering in the store! Volunteers help sticker and prep inventory, restock shelves and fulfill online requests from teachers.
