Concord Pike and Churchman's Crossing Monitoring Committees Winter Newsletters

The Churchman’s Crossing and Concord Pike Monitoring Committees were formed to guide and fulfill the recommendations of their respective plans. Each Monitoring Committee publishes newsletters to help the public stay informed. The winter 2024 newsletters are available now. Public Workshop for Old Baltimore Pike, Battle Drive to SR 72

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is holding a Public Workshop to solicit public input for the proposed improvements along Old Baltimore Pike from Battle Drive to SR 72 and Old Coochs Bridge Road. The Public Workshop will be held on February 6, 2024 at Glasgow High School. The public is invited to attend anytime between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Help explore the future of transportation funding in Maryland

Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is partnering with the Eastern Transportation Coalition to evaluate if a Mileage-Based User Fee (MBUF) could be a good alternative to the traditional state fuel tax paid at the pump. The Coalition is conducting an MBUF Pilot for MDOT from February 1 through May 31, 2024. Participants are needed for the Pilot program to experience an MBUF and provide feedback. Participation is free and your data is strictly confidential. Eligible individuals may be paid up to $100 for participating. Delaware reports decrease in road fatalities in 2023

As reported by WBOC News, "The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is reporting a decrease in traffic deaths in 2023 from an unfortunate peak in 2022."

Amtrak awards contracts for Susquehanna River Rail Bridge work

As reported by Mass Transit Magazine, "Amtrak awarded a series of contracts that will advance its planned replacement of the 117-year-old Susquehanna River Rail Bridge in Maryland, which is a critical link along the Northeast Corridor (NEC)."

New offshore wind study points to procurement as next step

As reported by Delaware Business Times, "The latest commissioned study on Delaware’s offshore wind has decisively recommended that the First State should buy into wind energy...But the exact path forward may be determined by state environmental officials and legislators in a forthcoming bill."

Expansion for major Delaware state park to add 275 acres for recreation and preservation

As reported by WHYY, “More than 300,500 visitors spent time at White Clay Creek State Park near Newark in 2022...That number could grow even higher in the coming years as another 275 acres of land is added to the park in an expansion announced by the state."

DelDOT has no plans to end its humorous road signs

As reported by Delaware Live, "The feds told the states that their road signs can no longer be humorous...They’re talking about the changeable message road signs that riff off of movies and other elements of pop culture, use puns or crack dad jokes to draw attention to messages about safe driving."

The rules of the road are changing, but not fast enough for everyone

As reported by National Public Radio, "Traffic fatalities in the U.S. are up sharply since the beginning of the pandemic — especially for pedestrians and cyclists. That's bringing attention to a previously obscure federal manual...The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices has set national standards for street signs and road design, with major revisions every decade or so."
