Tay Township News & Notes

January 2024

Message from the Mayor

Happy New Year Tay Township! I hope you’re all staying safe and warm and are making the most of winter so far!

We once again proclaimed the month of January as Crime Stoppers Month in Tay Township. Council, staff and members of Crime Stoppers Simcoe-Dufferin-Muskoka as well as the Southern Georgian Bay OPP, gathered to raise the Flag. Anonymous calls to Crime Stoppers of Simcoe-Dufferin-Muskoka have assisted the Police and other investigative agencies in making 5,231 arrests, recovering stolen property valued at over $13 million and seizing over $78 million in illegal drugs. I encourage all citizens to call 1-800-222-TIPS anonymously with any information about a crime that has occurred or is about to occur.

A reminder that we are seeking nominations for the 2024 Citizen of the Year. This is an opportunity to honour outstanding members from our community. To be nominated, a person must be a resident of Tay Township and have made contributions to better our community in at least one of the following areas: Arts/Literature, Community Service/Volunteerism, Education, Environment/Science, Fitness/Recreation/Sport, Humanitarian Activities, Keeping History Alive, Past and Current Contributions to the Community, Impact of Involvement, Leadership Roles, and Community Commitment and Support. Nomination forms are available at tay.ca or at our Municipal Office during regular business hours. The deadline to submit a nomination is Thursday, February 29, 2024. Tee Off With Tay

Inaugural Tee off With Tay Charity Golf Tournament, set to take place on Friday, August 16, 2024 at the Midland Golf & Country Club.

This tournament is not just about a round of golf – it’s about fortifying our schools, improving healthcare accessibility, and enriching mental health support for our community’s well-being.

Proceeds will contribute to the acquisition of an MRI Machine for Georgian Bay General Hospital, as well as support mental health care through programs offered by Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, including the North Simcoe Youth Wellness Hub, Family, Child and Youth Program and the Youth Resiliency Program. And lastly, funds will enrich the educational experiences at our two local schools, Tay Shores Public Elementary School and St. Antoine Daniel Catholic Elementary School. Funds will go directly towards nutrition programs and outdoor learning, ensuring that students learn with full tummies and in an environment where they can thrive by being provided with outdoor education opportunities that will exercise their bodies and minds.

Sponsorship Opportunity: The success of this tournament is made possible by the generosity of sponsors like you. We would love to showcase your business and involve you in our Tournament. Review and fill out our Sponsorship Form.

We look forward to hearing from you and encourage you to reach out to us via email at [email protected], phone 705-534-7248 ext. 229 or at www.tay.ca/golf.
