Energy Independence on Small Farms

October 2nd, 4:00-6:00pm

@

Winter Street Farm

344 Winter St, Claremont, NH 03743

Walpole, NH (September 7, 2023) – Growing a farm with community, environmental, and financial sustainability in mind is challenging enough. Add on soaring fuel costs and the continuous impacts from climate change, and it can feel near-impossible to stay afloat. We keep hearing about how the Inflation Reduction Act will support infrastructure and farmers but aren’t sure how to access those funds.

Learn from climate farmers Abby and Jonathan of Winter Street Farm in Claremont, NH, who have built energy efficiency and sustainability into every part of their operation. They’ve taken on several innovative projects including passive solar propagation and panels on their farmstand, a community compost collection system, reduced tillage while maintaining rotation, a guard Emu for their roving flock (his name is Edward) and a whole lot more.

Walk away knowing more options for cutting energy demand and building efficient systems, and about current local/federal opportunities for funding and support to get things done.

The Cheshire County Conservation District promotes the conservation and responsible use of our natural and agricultural resources for the people of Cheshire County by providing technical, financial, and educational assistance. Our goal is to encourage the stewardship of healthy soils, productive ecologically sound farms, diverse wildlife, productive sustainable forests, healthy watersheds, and clean water to ensure those resources are available for future generations. Established in 1945, the Conservation District operates out of Walpole, NH where we work alongside the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and other conservation partners.
