February 2024

Thank you to our patients!

The first week in February marks Patient Recognition Week, a time for those in the healthcare field to promote the culture of emphasizing patient satisfaction and superior healthcare service delivery. The care of our patients at WCHC is our top priority, so your feedback matters to us! Thank you for choosing WCHC to partner with you in your healthcare journey.

February is American Heart Month, a time when all people—especially women—are encouraged to focus on their cardiovascular health. Small heart-healthy actions like adding more movement to our day or choosing healthy foods, can have a big impact on protecting our heart!

Talk to your doctor about your heart health and how you can make heart-healthy choices in your life!

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Cavities, also known as caries or tooth decay, are the most common chronic disease of childhood, yet cavities are preventable. Teaching your child about healthy eating habits is one of the best practices for a lifetime of good health. Here are some helpful tips:

  • Eat fruits and vegetables for snacks rather than candies and cookies.
  • Brush your child’s teeth twice daily.
  • Serve water at mealtime rather than juice or soda.

As we celebrate Black History Month, we honor the incredible contributions of Black healthcare professionals who have shaped the landscape of medicine and wellness. Let's commemorate their courage, resilience, and dedication in breaking barriers and advancing health equity for all. Together, let's continue to champion diversity, inclusion, and excellence in healthcare.

REMINDER: Charge Card on File

We would like to make patients aware of a recent change to our financial policies. This update pertains to the following patient groups:

(1) Patients who utilize telehealth services

(2) Patients who are considered unaccompanied minors

Beginning on 2/29/24 we will require a credit/debit card on file, with limited exceptions, to simplify the process of collecting copays, coinsurances, deductibles, and past balances. Your understanding and cooperation are highly valued as we strive to strike a balance between convenience and effective operations. Should you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact our front office.

Community Connections

In January, Major George Stanko from the Cecil County Sheriff's Office came to WCHC Conowingo to meet with us regarding the alignment of our procedures to that of any potential need for law enforcement response. We are appreciative of Major Stanko's willingness to lend his expertise and of the continuous support of the Cecil County Sheriff's Office. Partnerships such as this assist us in providing a safe environment for patients and staff.

WCHC was proud to participate in the first Teen Mental Health Night hosted by the Cecil County Public Library Youth Board last Friday evening. This event was attended by 40 high school students from public and private schools in Cecil County. A special thanks to WCHC therapist Donna Sappah, LCPC, RPT, for leading the opening exercise for the students!

Mental Health Matters

Helping to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

In February, we celebrate International Boost Self-Esteem Month. It's a fact that self-esteem starts developing in early life, and it's constantly changing. Sometimes, it can be at its best, while at other times, it can be at its worst. It's important to understand that our sense of self-worth is not fixed. No matter what challenges come your way, you have the power to boost your self-esteem and overcome them. Embrace your uniqueness and celebrate your strengths. Don't let negative self-talk bring you down. Accepting your flaws is also a crucial step in boosting self-esteem. Believe in yourself and your abilities, and know you can achieve great things.

WCHC Behavioral Health is currently accepting new patients for both in-person and telehealth medication and therapy services. If you, or someone you know, are in need of care, please call the office today at 410-378-9696 to schedule.

A Note for Patients:

The Clinical & Group Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Survey

Over the next several months, a company named DataStat/MDPCP (Maryland Primary Care Program) may send you a survey in the mail (or email) on behalf of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Maryland Primary Care Program evaluates practices on the results of these surveys.

Your opinion is important to us. If you receive a survey in the mail, please complete the survey as soon as possible. Your feedback will help inform how we can better provide services to our patients.

Participation in this survey is voluntary and anonymous. Our practice will not see individual results or receive notification of the patients who participated in the survey. DataStat will provide our practice with a summary of the results upon completion.
