Let Your Voices Be Heard!

Dear Karen,

I strongly encourage you to take an hour of your afternoon this coming Saturday, September 9th at 4PM to join Bob and me at our house (395 Ocean Walk - between Nautilus & Neptune) for a meet and greet with three very important Brookhaven elected officials (of which one is seeking the top office in Suffolk County).

The Pines is a part of both the Town of Brookhaven and Suffolk County, and these two government entities have critical control over many of our most important community services and infrastructure, including but (certainly not) limited to the following:

  • Garbage collection and recycling.
  • Maintenance of the boardwalks and Boulevard.
  • Building and zoning codes.
  • The Erosion Control District, which supports beach fencing and grass.
  • The Dock District, which supports annual dredging of the harbor.
  • Noise and garbage ordinances.

Additionally, Suffolk County is currently the local sponsor of our Army Corp of Engineers engineered beach, which they will eventually turn over to the Town of Brookhaven.  As we currently seek emergency repairs, we partner with the County.   When we inevitably in the future seek routine maintenance, we will partner with Brookhaven.

While I as community President can influence many decisions impacting the Pines, my voice is far more effective when it is both validated and amplified by constituents. Saturday is your greatest possibility to share directly your most pressing concerns and challenges. Please take advantage of this unique opportunity – we have never had all three of these gentlemen visit the Pines at the same time, and we have never had so much at stake with both Brookhaven and Suffolk County.

Finally, while not a requirement, I strongly encourage you to contribute to the FIPPOA Political Action Committee, which will in turn donate to their campaigns. Not only is the total dollar amount raised important, so too is the number of individuals who participate. If we can boast that over 100 members of the community contributed, strength in numbers will speak volumes about how seriously the Pines takes our support of their elected office. Whether it is $50 or $500, please take a moment to join your neighbors in raising our collective voices to those who are directly responsible for many of the things that both threaten our community and enable it to thrive.

Please give what you can; please attend; please speak up!
