Video Feature: 2023 Holiday with a Hero Christmas Celebration

A SusanvilleStuff Video Feature

by Marshel and Jeremy Couso

Hundreds of local heroes, including first responders, law enforcement officers and an army of volunteers, brought Christmas to kids from all over the county Saturday as part of the Lassen County Holiday with a Hero program.

Costumed characters, princesses and the Susanville Kickettes all made the morning more fun for the assembled kids.

The ‘Parade of Heroes’ with its lights and sirens began at the Community Church and arrived at the college, followed by Santa’s arrival via helicopter, much to the delight of kids and parents.

Once inside the gym the children got to participate in fun activities and each one got to shop with hero for a little Christmas cheer.

Malfunctioning Flu Pipe Blamed

for Janesville Residential Fire

Janesville Fire Protection District and Cal-FIRE engine 2261 responded to a home on Honey Girl Lane in the Janesville area late Sunday afternoon, arriving to find a two-story, single-family residence, with smoke and flames showing from the chimney.

Janesville Fire Chief Dustin Leef immediately requested a full response from the Susanville Interagency Fire Center.

“Janesville Engine 425 arrived on scene and began fire attack from both inside and outside the structure,” explains Chief Leef.

“Engine 2261 arrived on scene and made access through the roof of the structure and cut a ventilation hole to vent the smoke and hot gasses.”

According to Leef the fire was deemed under control at around 4:30p.m. and fire crews began overhauling the stucture looking for additional fire.

The cause of the fire was investigated and determined to be a malfunctioning flu pipe.

There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. JFPD was supported by Cal-FIRE with one engine and two battalion chiefs, Milford Fire with two engines and one water tender, Correctional Center Fire one engine and one fire chief.
