The Jericho Road Soup Kitchen at St. Gabriel's, Rutherfordton, stayed busy the week of Thanksgiving using the updated appliances gained from grants and fundraising efforts. The parish of St. Gabriel's/St. Francis' Community Thanksgiving Meal distributed 1,045 meals by delivery, drive-thru, and at the Parish Hall of St. Gabriel's.

Beware of Scams
A scammer recently took advantage of a Western North Carolina congregation by impersonating a church staff member. Please be aware that church staff members will not send texts or emails soliciting financial support. Be suspicious if a message sounds odd, and check out this article from AARP for more tips on how to spot an imposter scam.

Resources for the Conflict in the Holy Land
The Office of Government Relations in The Episcopal Church has released a webpage of resources to follow the conflict in Gaza, Palestine, and Israel. The page includes ways to take action to support the citizens affected by the conflict, statements from leaders, partner resources, prayers, social media, and a list of press releases. The page is being updated as the situation develops.

Help Trinity Youth Fund Trip to Greece in 2024
Trinity, Asheville, has commissioned two pieces of calligraphy artwork as a fundraiser for the youth trip to Greece in 2024.
The artwork is by Manuel Murillo, a local Asheville artist, and is available in two prints and two sizes, 8” x 10” ($45) and 12” x 16” ($85), matted and ready to frame.
Online orders will be collected until noon on Sunday, December 10. Please follow this link to order here.

Curry-Inspired Documentary Coming to Theaters in January
Hundreds of theaters around the United States are planning a one-time showing of a documentary inspired by Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry’s “teachings and writings on the power of unselfish love,” a senior member of Curry’s staff announced November 30. In addition to Curry, the film features prominent Episcopalians such as Thistle Farms founder Becca Stevens and former Senator John Danforth, as well as views about love from interview with everyday people.

TEC Executive Council Approves 38 Grants for New Communities
A diverse array of 38 new church and missional communities received approval for $734,150 in grants during the Episcopal Church Executive Council’s meeting in October.
The 80th Episcopal Church General Convention authorized the Task Force on Church Planting and Congregational Redevelopment to continue establishing and strengthening new Episcopal communities through the distribution of grants to new and existing church plants, including one in Western North Carolina.
