An Invitation from the Gratitude & Growth Team

To our Strawbridge family:

Anyone who has been inside our church knows that we have a lot of furniture to serve the varied needs of our congregation and staff. There’s one item, however, that you’ll never find at Strawbridge UMC: a “cool kids’ table.”

It doesn’t matter whether you’ve been a member for decades or are among those who have joined Strawbridge fairly recently. As we enter a new year that will present wonderful opportunities as well as significant challenges, we want you to speak up. Your energy, your creativity, and your spiritual vision are equally valued and needed.

As we shared in a recent email to the membership, Strawbridge UMC has signed an agreement to purchase the 5.9-acre, wooded tract of land just across the drainage ditch from our location. The additional parking space this site will provide presents us with a broad range of possibilities as we consider how our church can best accommodate the growth that has occurred and

expand its potential to serve our community.

That’s where you play a vital role.

At 12:15 p.m. this Sunday, January 21, we will host a Town Hall Meeting in the Sanctuary to provide a status report on this land purchase and details about our pending capital campaign, which is in the planning stages now. An architect has been working with us to develop options for addressing our church’s facility needs, and we now have some initial conceptual designs. These designs will undergo further refinement before we are ready to make a recommendation, possibly by late-February.

It is important for this initiative to be a transparent process, and this Town Hall Meeting will be an opportunity for members to ask questions and offer comments on where we stand and where we’re going. Please be assured that we will keep the meeting as brief as possible.

This is an exciting time for us all as we embrace the opportunity to serve as the primary United Methodist Church in the Lake Houston area. Whether you are a longtime member or a recent addition to our family, we want to keep you up to date and we want to hear your thoughts. Please plan to attend our January 21 Town Hall Meeting and pray for God’s guidance as you consider your own possible role in the important work that lies ahead for our church.

Peace and blessings,

The Gratitude & Growth Team
