Looking to get more involved at with St. Alphonsus YAM?

There are plenty of ways to volunteer with our Young Adult Ministry! The below Involvement and Volunteer Form is a great first step in letting us know you're eager to get more involved and help our community thrive. All we need is your name and email to get started so that we can reach out to you directly. Whether it's joining one of our committees or simply lending a hand at one of our events, we want to know your interests.

General

Samuel Group at St. Alphonsus

Do you ever wonder how to make a good decision according to God’s will? Join us for a discernment group specifically geared toward young adults (ages 19–35). Here you will discuss all kinds of discernment – if you are called to consecrated life, married life or single life, to a certain career or city, and more. The goal of this group is to help you, and in some cases your significant other, know yourself, Jesus and your role within the Church.

These discernment groups will take place monthly over the course of seven months. At each session, you will listen to talks, have time for small group sharing, and have the opportunity for Mass, Confession and Adoration. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet individually with a spiritual director during this program.

Air & Water Show Watch Party

Saturday, August 19 | 11am

Come join St. Al’s YAM on Saturday, August 19th from 11am-3pm as we have watch the Chicago Air Show from the St Al’s Rectory Rooftop. Enjoy the great weather, fantastic views of the Chicago skyline and great time meeting new friends! This is a BYOB and food event, we are hoping to have a small grill set up to cook up some hot dogs or burgers. Feel free to bring any yard games as well.

YAM/YAC Spikeball Tournament

Saturday, August 26 | 11am

Join the Saint Clement Young Adult Community and the Saint Alphonsus Young Adult Ministry for our first Spikeball Tournament! We'll meet on Saturday, August 26th at Montrose Beach at 11am. We will have a beginner and intermediate bracket, so please be sure to sign up for the correct one.

Each person will sign up individually and will be placed on a team of two with another player in your bracket. If you'd like to be on a team with your friend, please be sure you list their name in the appropriate section.

Your $5 payment goes towards prizes for the winning teams, and snacks and drinks at the tournament. Please fill out the registration form below to claim your spot!

Sippin Social Happy Hour

Sunday, August 27 | 6pm

Meet at the back of church after 5pm mass and we'll walk over to a new cocktail bar close by St. Al's, called Olive Black, for drinks and socialization.

Praise & Adoration

Friday, August 25 | 7:30pm

On Friday, August 25th, spend time with our Lord in praise and adoration in the church. We'll spend the first 15 minutes in silent adoration, and then our musicians will lead worship in song. Confession will also be available! The hour will conclude with benediction, and fellowship at Olive Black after!

Philosophy Forum

Tuesdays

Join us on Tuesdays in the St. Alphonsus rectory for weekly philosophy discussions and digging deeper into the greatest thinkers of all time. Get in touch with Evan at esadasiv@alumni.nd.edu for more information.

Book Club

Wednesdays | 6pm

Our parish has a group of intellectual avid readers who love our Catholic faith and learning more about life through the great works. They meet every Wednesday at 6pm, either in-person in the rectory or on ZOOM. For more information, contact Book Club coordinator Leora at lwallac2@alumni.nd.edu.

Service

MOLA Block Party Service Event

Saturday, August 19 | 9am-2:30pm

Come join lots of volunteers, including YCP Chicago and Saint Clement Young Adult Community, as we serve at the MOLA block party! This is a huge event that feeds over 200 people in Humboldt Park and gives away school supplies for the beginning of the school year.

P.S.- this is a long day so we encourage you to bring friends to celebrate the day with!
