New Sustainable Engineering Training

Fugitive Dust Mitigation

September 14th, 2023, 9:00am – 12:00pm PT


CALTAP is hosting an online training class detailing the sources, impact, and mitigation of fugitive dust as a construction byproduct, the first in a series of Sustainable Engineering Training Academy (SETA) modules targeting transportation and construction engineers, planners, and project managers.


Mixing lecture with case studies and interactive exercises, course participants will learn what fugitive dust is, how it's commonly released during construction phases, how to calculate that release, and what mitigation strategies exist.

  • Industry professionals involved in securing, planning, and implementing construction projects and mitigating their environmental impact


  • Engineering students interested in understanding and mitigating airborne particulates released during construction operations

New Training for Local/Tribal Agencies

Federal Requirements for BIL Grants

September 6th, 2 4pm ET


FHWA is hosting an online training session to assist local/tribal agencies with applying for transportation funding via the many Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) grant programs.


This 90-min introductory course (followed by 30-min Q&A) will cover funding opportunities, federal project delivery requirements, steps to take prior to application, pre-award requirements, and resources to leverage throughout the federal project and grant application processes.

Caltrans Local Agency Survey

Reimbursements for Tribal Monitoring


The Caltrans Division of Environmental Analysis/Cultural Studies Office is surveying local and regional agencies in an effort to establish more consistent statewide policies regarding the participation and reimbursement of California Native American Tribes in project environmental and cultural studies, including tribal monitoring of transportation activities.

 

Your responses to this five-question survey are both confidential and greatly appreciated, as it will assist Caltrans in advancing the development of guidance for broad mutual benefit across all parties.

BTSCRP Research Report 8

Highway Safety Behavioral Strategies

for Rural & Tribal Areas


The Transportation Research Board's (TRB) Behavioral Traffic Safety Cooperative Research Program (BTSCRP) has released Research Report 8: Highway Safety Behavioral Strategies for Rural & Tribal Areas.


Roadway fatalities and serious injuries are a significant public health concern in rural and tribal settings. Creating a coalition of interested individuals is part of the Safe System Approach that addresses the high rates of these fatalities and serious injuries. The report details this approach, including strategies for safer people, safer roads, safer vehicles, safer speeds, and post-crash care.
