E-Newsletter Special Edition

January 9, 2024

After a multi-year process of planning, fundraising, bidding, contracts, and building, we are here in our beautiful new building. We are so very grateful to our community and partners for all the support over the past few years.

Words do not describe how excited we are to be in the new building. We look forward to serving you. See you at the library!

We were able to move the statue from the old site to the new building! It's a little piece of home in our new home!

The new library features awesome new face out shelving for children’s board books, picture books, and popular readers! Face out shelving allows young children to be active participants in selecting books that will be read to them. Having children start at young age exploring the shelves for books they want creates positive experiences and emphasizes the importance of reading for fun. We want to plant the seed of a love of reading and books as young as we can.

Toddler tested, parent approved! We have a tiny toilet in the Family Restroom in the Children's Area.

Architect Brett Rottinghaus poses by the Makerspace displays and Teen Area computer stations. Brett worked diligently on the library project. He listened and made functional beautiful spaces for us to serve you like the Makerspace!

The Makerspace is where people can get messy for hands on fun and also a great space for teen programs!

Sue Ames was a giant in our community. Our previous meeting room was named for her and now our Conference Room will continue to have that honor!

The back of the building is largely windows that overlook a natural landscape. Here is a reader seating by the windows on the second floor.

The Library has hired a specialty landscaping contractor to help establish the prairie areas which will improve our already beautiful views and provide habitat for wildlife. The 3-year contract will ensure that the prairie is successfully established.

Our Reading Room was designed to feel like your living room and features faux area rug carpet and a fire place.

Our staff finally have a break room that isn't also a work room!

To celebrate, Board Vice-President, Jenny Nelson used one of the Eureka! Collections cake pans to make a book cake for staff. Yum!

Jennifer Way, director, and Jenny Nelson, Board Vice-President, cut the ribbon.

Speech! Speech! Speech!

After the Ribbon Cutting, we went to our amazing Community Room and had a few speeches. Much larger than the meeting room in the old library, it was still packed with happy library supporters! We loved it!

OCA was at the Grand Opening and took video of all the excitement! Enjoy!
