Call for Nominations: Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award

The Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award honors one permanent faculty member with an outstanding record of teaching and a sustained commitment to student learning. The award is funded through a gift from the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation. All nominees will be notified and will receive details about the materials required to complete a Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award application.

Help! I’m a Professor, Not a Psychologist!

On October 3 Lindsay Johnson, Assistant Director, Well-being, presented Help! I’m a Professor, Not a Psychologist! The number of college students presenting with issues related to mental health continues to rise and, as a result, faculty are encountering more students with mental health concerns. Faculty Guide for Supporting Student Well-being. We recognize that faculty might struggle to know if, when, and how to intervene. Signs that a student may be struggling, along with concrete ways for faculty to address those concerns, are discussed in the presentation video (log in with your Rowan Net ID, password: 8W3%$9NY).

Reframing Our Beliefs as Profs: Students, Technology, and Me

On October 27 the Rowan Teaching Connection held their fall mini-conference, Reframing Our Beliefs as Profs: Students, Technology, and Me, a series of collaborative workshops including Healing Forward: Supporting the Next Generation, Using Generative AI to Support Teaching and Learning, Using Hypothesis for Student Engagement, Reflecting on How We Engage with Students, and Games, Play, and Movement to Support Student Learning and Engagement (log in with your Rowan credentials to access). Mentioned at the workshop were brain breaks and focused attention practices, as well as the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion's Certificate Level Two: Inclusive Pedagogy and Practices Certificate, a professional development opportunity for teaching professionals and professional staff interested in learning more about developing an inclusive educational environment.

How can you intervene in a safe way to prevent power-based personal violence? Find out how to help keep our campus & community safer. Green Dot is a comprehensive approach to violence prevention that capitalizes on the power of bystander awareness and intervention.

QPR Suicide Prevention Training

QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is an evidence-informed program that works to help us recognize when someone is having a suicidal crisis, and gives us tools to help them get the resources they may need. This training is open to students, staff, and faculty.

Mental Health First Aid Training

This in-person training teaches participants how to assess a situation, listen, and refer to services or self-support options. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use disorders, and mental health. There will be required pre-training course work. To cover the cost of materials, departments sending staff or faculty will be asked to do a DCA for $43.
