It’s hard to believe it's time for our annual meeting again! It feels like just yesterday we were in National Harbor. It's been a pleasure representing AAVLD and working with our board of directors, committee chairs, and members over the past 12 months. Together, we've accomplished a lot to advance our profession of veterinary diagnostic medicine. I’m particularly excited about the work our president-elect, Dr. Tanya LeRoith, and the Program Committee have put into the upcoming meeting. I can't wait to see many of you in person in just a few weeks.
Our in-person meeting, held in conjunction with our USAHA colleagues, is always jam-packed with meetings, presentations, and scientific sessions. Ensure you join us for the AAVLD Foundation dinner, plenary session, awards luncheon, President’s dinner, and House of Delegates meetings. Don’t forget to stop by the exhibitor hall and the AAVLD DEI Booth.
I always really enjoy this meeting because it is invigorating and exhausting at the same time. The AAVLD Board of Directors has a surprise for the membership, but we will keep that under wraps until we see you in Nashville!

Program Chair Anxiously Awaits Your Attendance | |
Many thanks to our program committee and abstract reviewers for the fantastic program at this year’s Annual Meeting! We had over 220 abstracts submitted, and the quality of the abstracts is outstanding. I am excited to be able to attend as many as I can. In addition to the scientific sessions, we have sessions that will appeal to all of our membership, ranging from our Plenary Session on developing strong diagnostic teams to our pathology symposia and emerging issues seminar focusing on H5N1 in cattle. I would encourage all new members to attend our New Member Orientation reception on Thursday at 5:30 pm, and everybody to attend the Foundation Banquet/Auction, Awards Luncheon, and Presidents' Dinner to support our members, students, and colleagues. I look forward to a great meeting and seeing you all in Nashville!!

The work of the AAVLD foundation is to foster long-term engagement in diagnostic medicine. Supporting and recruiting the next generation of diagnosticians is critical in these times of acute workforce shortages.
This year alone, the AAVLD Foundation provided approximately $18,000 in travel support to engage the next generation of diagnosticians and advance student training by enabling students to attend the annual meeting. The foundation also provided monetary awards to celebrate excellence in diagnostic medicine. This work is only made possible through your generous donation and additional donations from engaged AAVLD members.
We need your support!
Please donate an item or make a monetary donation to support this important cause.
The format of the event features a silent and engaging live auction, dinner, and a raffle. There are boundless opportunities to win and please attend!
Can we count on seeing you at the Foundation Banquet and Auction?

Endoparasites of rabbits and hares,
Katherine Hughes
Abstract. Nematode, cestode, protozoan, microsporidian, and pentastomid parasites affect domesticated and wild rabbits, hares, and jackrabbits of the genera Brachylagus, Lepus, Oryctolagus, Pentalagus, and Sylvilagus. Some endoparasite infections are of limited or no significance, whereas others have potentially profound consequences. Accurate identification of endoparasites of rabbits, hares, and jackrabbits is an important facet of the work of veterinary pathologists engaged in lagomorph pathology. Here I review endoparasites from the pathologist’s perspective, focusing on pathogenesis, lesions, and implications of infection. More

Interstitial lung diseases frequently represent a diagnostic challenge for veterinary diagnosticians. This challenge can be identified at all stages of diagnosis, particularly with gross and histologic interpretation. Moreover, each animal species varies in pulmonary physiology, pathology, and frequency of different diseases, which add more layers of complexity to this already difficult pattern. We aim to expand our knowledge of this intricate pattern to better investigate our lung submissions, describe lesions, and finally diagnose interstitial lung diseases.
We are inviting submissions to a JVDI special section on Interstitial lung disease in domestic animals to be guest edited by Dr. Francisco R. Carvallo, Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, Virginia Tech, and Dr. Jeff Caswell, Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph.
If you are interested, please submit an abstract of up to 250 words describing your proposed topic by September 30, 2024.
Primary research papers, case series, and reviews of a focused topic will be considered, as will single-animal case reports if they are novel and include a review of the literature on the focused topic of the report. For abstracts on topics considered suitable for the special issue, authors will be notified by October 30, 2024, and full submissions will be expected by April 30, 2025. Submitted manuscripts will proceed through the usual JVDI peer-review and editorial processes, with publications expected in the fall of 2025. Page charges of $75/printed page will apply - there is no color page charge for online-only publications.
Please submit your abstract to guest editor Dr. Francisco R. Carvallo, fcarvallo@vt.edu
