¹Lord, thou hast been favourable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.

 ²Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sin. Selah.

 ³Thou hast taken away all thy wrath: thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger.

 ⁴Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease.

 ⁵Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations?

 ⁶Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?

 ⁷Shew us thy mercy, O LORD, and grant us thy salvation.

 ⁸I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.

 ⁹Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.

 ¹⁰Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

 ¹¹Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

 ¹²Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.

 ¹³Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.

Psalms 85 Commentary

(85:6-8) Revival - The psalm writer was asking God to revive his people, bringing them back to a refreshing spiritual life. God wants to revive both churches and individuals. He pours out his love on us, renewing our love for him. If you need a revival of faith, prayer, or power in your church, family, or personal spiritual life, ask God to give you a fresh touch of his love. 

(85:9-13) Seek God's Righteousness - As the psalm writer cries out for God's intervention, he paints a beautiful picture of what God can do for those who put love into action. Their lives are like heralds announcing God's arrival (85:13). This psalm illustrates how love, truth, and godly living lead to God's blessing of peace. This principle works similarly in the life of a nation or an individual. Jesus pointed out that the more we first seek God's righteousness, kingdom, and rule in our lives, the more we will see him take care of everything else (Matthew 6:25:33).

Each day, we walk through the Bible chapter by chapter, making an application of our text to help us grow in the Lord. Many applications can be made from each day's text. Today, we continue in the Book of Psalms with Chapter 85. In our text today, we see a theme of reverence for restoration. We see how if we acknowledge who God is, it puts us in a position to accept His forgiveness, and in return, we receive our love and joy for God. In applying, we see our need to reverence or exalt the Lord. When He is high and lifted up, we gain the right perspective as it shows us the truth of who God is - and who we are, lost sinners. Once lost, we can see our need for a Savior, Jesus Christ. How about you? Do you know the truth of who God is regarding who we are? Today, let us learn from our Psalm and text to remember our position regarding a Holy God and that Jesus is Lord.
