BUILDING BRIGHT BRAINS

What is the #buildingbrightbrains campaign about? It is a series of initiatives to share messages with parents and adolescents that brains continue to develop until age 25, and choices made during youth can change the brain's structure for better or worse. Like this post or follow SUP Medway as we continue to empower both teens and their parents with tips on what "boosts" the brain and facts on what to avoid to not "bust" brain development.

Stay tuned for more educational posts and professional takes on how to #buildbrightbrains!

Building Bright Brains - Brain Bust (adderall)

BRAIN BUST

Adderall is a drug often prescribed to help people focus. It is often abused by people who want help focusing or to enjoy the other side effects, such as increased energy, being more outgoing, and being able to study longer or work longer shifts, along with the dopamine rush it provides. However, when abused or taken without a doctor’s supervision, it can lead to long-term problems such as aggression, heightened anxiety, mood swings, seizures, depression, headaches, and toxic psychosis. If you find yourself so busy that you feel you need to take a drug to get it all done, I would like to suggest something else to help you sustain and improve brain health and mood regulation: prioritize what needs to be done and allow yourself to have limits. Your brain will thank you.

Redefining Kid Food

KIDS TEST KITCHEN

We are redefining kid food! Each class presents students with opportunity to explore new or familiar foods in their raw, unmanipulated state. Then, working as a team, they’ll slice, dice, peel, measure, and cook until they’ve prepared the finished dish. Class closes with opportunity to taste the result of their hard work. Students receive a printed recipe card and the focal ingredient - or a sample of the finished dish - so they can show off what they learned! Even the most reluctant eaters enjoy Kids’ Test Kitchen, where participation is encouraged, and the choice to taste is always one’s own.
