Congratulations to the recipients of the 2023 Awards of Excellence in Teaching! Dr. Darcy Harris, Professor of Thanatology, will be recognized for full-time faculty and Dr. Jennifer Silcox, lecturer of the department of Sociology, will be recognized for part-time faculty. Dr. Harris and Dr. Silcox are truly outstanding and inspiring examples of teaching excellence at King’s. | |

Miranda Currie - Vice-President of Special Events - King's University College Students' Council (KUCSC)
Miranda, going into her fifth year pursuing a double major in Sociology and Criminology, is excited to continue rebuilding student engagement and create a sense of community through events.
Among the many clubs and events she has been involved with, Miranda was an HBK Relay for Life Commissioner and the Pride Project’s Vice-President of Finance.
“These experiences have helped me grow my leadership skills and learn how to plan successful events students will love,” says Miranda. Good luck, Miranda!

Sheri Rack, Housekeeping Supervisor, Physical Plant department, took this photo standing on the walkway in front of the east wing of Wemple. "People aren't usually here at this time of day to see how beautiful King's campus is this early in the morning," says Sheri.

Thanatology Students Lead Session on Afterlife with Beal Students
Dr. Darcy Harris, Professor of Thanatology, and students Kay Zhan, Corinna Vandenboorn and Maggie Myers facilitated a session during the BGC London’s Philosopher’s Café on May 26.
The Thanatology students worked with 100 Grade 9 - 12 H.B. Beal Secondary School students on the creation of collages representing what the Beal students think about the afterlife, or what they would want done with their bodies when they die.

Trotman Wins Gold in Wrestling Canada Team Trials
Treye Trotman, first-year Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies (BMOS) student, won gold in the 57 kg division during the 2023 Canadian U23 Wrestling Championships and World Team Trials, held in Place Bell Cité in Laval, Quebec on May 27-28. This earned him a spot on the Canadian National Team for the second time, and he will travel with the team throughout the summer, competing in his weight class.

King's Graduate Amplifies Marginalized in Documentary Pilot
Moses Latigo Odida ’09 started a video production company called Kigaana Productions, which aims to liberate marginalized communities by telling their stories. Moses has always believed that amplifying marginalized voices is a critical step in humanizing the marginalized. You can watch the pilot for his documentary, Down: Canada's Black Caregivers.

Black Education Fund
The Black Education Fund is accepting applications for their Black Education Fund scholarship or bursary award. The successful applicants for the Roster Scholarships will receive $1,000 per year, for every year of their program (up to a maximum of four years).
Deadline to apply: July 9

Summer Residence Available in the Epworth Place Houses
Right on campus, Epworth Place Houses are affordable and available this summer until August 15. Each house has four rooms, and the price includes housekeeping, maintenance, full kitchens, laundry, two or three washrooms, and spacious rooms.
$50 per night or $1200 per month. Spaces are filling up, so don't delay.

You can access Good2Talk, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You will find free, confidential support 24/7 by texting GOOD2TALKON to 686868 or by calling 1-866-925-5454. Good2Talk is available by phone or text and in English, French and Mandarin.
Men's Health Week takes place from June 13-19. Togetherall, is a place where men can come and open up anonymously and get the support they need, anytime. Togetherall is a peer-to-peer platform that connects with others experiencing similar feelings, and is available to all students. They have trained professionals on hand, and this service is free.

Masses are offered on Sundays at 10 a.m. in The Chapel at Windermere on the Mount (WOTM). Evening Mass will be at 7 p.m. at WOTM. Noon Mass at King's will resume in the fall.
