Florida-bred Colt by Nyquist Brings $525,000 at Keeneland Session 5

Donato Lanni as an agent for SF Racing, Starlight Racing and Madaket Stable went to $525,000 to acquire Hip 1322, a Florida-bred colt by Kentucky Derby-winner Nyquist out of the stakes-placed Quality Road mare Oola Gal during the fifth session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale Saturday. Consigned by Eaton Sales as agent, the colt is from the family of multiple Grade 1-winner Strategic Maneuver and was bred in Florida by Peter Vegso’s Vegso Racing Stable.

This Day in Florida Thoroughbred History - Diplomatic Jet Tops Florida-bred Trifecta in Grade 1 Man o' War

September 14, 1996 – Florida-bred Diplomatic Jet drew clear in the stretch with jockey Jorge Chavez aboard to win the $400,000 Man o’ War (Grade 1) at Belmont Park, winning by two lengths ahead of fellow Florida-breds Mecke in second with Marlin another three-quarters of length back in third.

West Nile Virus Confirmed in Marion County

According the Equine Disease Communication Center and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, a Thoroughbred colt at a private facility in Marion County, Fla., has tested positive for West Nile. According to the EDCC alert, an unknown number of other horses have been exposed at the facility.
