Hello Colt Families!

We had a great start to our 2nd Nine Weeks! We were able to get our November fire drill in last week during the nice weather. With that being said, please remind your children to dress in layers and to use coats. Parts of our school building are colder and dressing in layers will help. We will be having colder days and heading into Winter quickly.

Veterans Day Activities:

We had several different Veterans Day activities going on last week. We want

to thank all our Veterans who came and gave our students the generous gifts of time, stories, and motivation.

We had CV alumni Captain Jason Pitassi, who serves in the U. S. Army Special Forces, speak with our 8th graders. He discussed the responsibilities of the American military in the 21st century and the history of Veterans Day.

The Lime House hosted Mrs. Paige Russell and Mr. Mark Bridge during I&E to discuss military service in honor of Veterans Day. Mrs. Russell spoke on behalf of her 99-year-old grandfather who served during WWII. He was captured by the Germans for a period of time and is now honored in a museum in Texas. He will be celebrating is 100th birthday this December! Mr. Bridge was a in the Navy from 1994-1998. He learned how to be sonar tech and was assigned to the USS Pasadena. He spoke about life on the sub, the many places he traveled, and the benefits of being a veteran.

In 7 Red, the students engaged in thought-provoking discussions and activities centered around honoring and understanding our veterans. Recently, our students delved into the significance of Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and Armed Forces Day, learning about the unique importance of each occasion. They explored the meaning behind the term "veteran" and articulated their reflections on paper, showing their understanding and appreciation for those who have served our country. Additionally, the class participated in a meaningful exercise by watching the inspiring TED Talk by Wes Moore titled "How to Talk to Veterans about War." The students were encouraged to express their thoughts on the powerful phrase "Thank you for your service," which allowed them to consider the impact of these words on those who have dedicated themselves to protecting our freedoms.

Middle School Activities:

Our middle school winter sport teams have been gearing up with the start of Boys Basketball. Please be reminded:

To ensure the safety and supervision of all participants, we request your cooperation in the following matters: All students in Middle School must be accompanied by an adult when attending any of our events, including sporting games. Students are not to be dropped off without adult supervision. In addition, they are not permitted to stay after school unsupervised until the game or event begins. Your support and adherence to this policy will help maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all attendees.

Have a Great Week!

Dear Chartiers Valley,

I hope this message finds you well.  We are now in full swing of the school year.  The first nine weeks have passed, our fall sports season has concluded, and we are entering a time traditionally of family and giving thanks.  I would be remiss if I didn't mention that that it is one of my favorite times of the year, celebrating two important events: Kindness Day and Thanksgiving.

First, Kindness Day, which is today, November 13, serves as a reminder of the powerful impact that kindness can have in our lives. It's a day when we celebrate the small acts of compassion and generosity that make our school district a nurturing and inclusive environment.

As we approach Thanksgiving, a time when we come together to give thanks for the blessings in our lives, I want to express my deep gratitude for the support, dedication, and hard work of our students, teachers, staff, parents, and the entire community. It is through your collective efforts that we continue to provide an exceptional education and a safe, nurturing environment for our students.

Additionally, I am humbled and honored to share some exciting news with you all. I have been nominated as an American School Superintendents Association (ASSA) Superintendent nominee. Also, this upcoming December, I am thrilled to be inducted into the University of Pittsburgh Superintendent's Forum. These recognitions are a testament to our school district's collaborative spirit and commitment to excellence in education. I look forward to representing our community at the forum and sharing the invaluable insights and experiences I gained with you.

I am genuinely thankful for the privilege of serving as your school superintendent and the incredible support we receive from all of you. Together, we are making a positive difference in the lives of our students, and I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.

I wish you all a heartwarming Kindness Day and a joyous Thanksgiving holiday. May this season be a time of reflection, appreciation, and renewed commitment to the values that make our community great.

Warm regards,

Johannah Vanatta, EdD.

Superintendent
