We're thankful for friends like you!

Dear Emmanuel,

Happy November! With Thanksgiving just around the corner, November is always a great time to remind ourselves of how thankful we are for you. We've accomplished so much with your support in 2023.

In this newsletter, you'll get updates on how we need your help this holiday season to reach our $40,000 goal in our 40 Years of Action campaign. A gift to 40 Years of Action will help make our Oxnard headquarters safer for our staff and the community members we serve.

You'll also learn about our recent outreach visits to two Ventura County business expos as well as an Oxnard Leadership Program luncheon we hosted at our headquarters. And we're also celebrating one of our own staff members being selected for the Program too! Finally, we recognize Veteran's Day in a special way given the number of veterans in Ventura County that rely on our programs and resources.

Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving holiday. Thank you for all that you do for our mission of building pathways out of poverty across Ventura County.

Join our 40 Years of Action campaign

this holiday season!

Make a difference in the lives of our staff, volunteers, and your fellow community members this holiday season!

Our 40 Years of Action fundraising campaign runs now through December 31st, and our goal is to raise $40,000 to make crucial repairs to our Oxnard headquarters. We launched this campaign in May to commemorate our 40th year in our Oxnard home.

We are thrilled that we've already raised over 30% towards our goal! But we need your help this holiday season to ensure we can continue to make our home safer for those most in need across Ventura County in 2024.

Fostering Community Leadership:

A Day of Insightful Conversations

On October 27th, we had the distinct honor of welcoming the Oxnard Leadership Program Class of 2023 to our headquarters, where they learned more about us and engaged in meaningful conversations.

The day’s agenda also allowed our guests to learn more about the crucial work carried out by other local organizations such as Saint John’s Hospital, Food Share, and MICOP. These experiences illuminated the underlying needs of our community, reinforcing the importance of collective efforts.

We were thrilled to host a panel that led discussions around one of the most pressing issues in Ventura County: homelessness. Our panel featured:

  • Anthony Camper, CAVC
  • Ninna Castellano, Regional Manager, Mercy House
  • Jason Meek, Executive Director, Turning Point Foundation
  • Alicia Morales-McKinney, Continuum of Care

The Oxnard Leadership Program is a 10-session course that provides the participants with a unique opportunity to engage in face-to-face meetings with key decision makers and experts. It serves as a platform to explore and understand the vital issues that shape the future of our community. Click on the button below to learn more.

Oxnard Leadership Program

Our very own Catalina in the

Oxnard Leadership Program!

Speaking of the Oxnard Leadership Program, we are so thrilled to share news that our very own Catalina Solis has been accepted into the program's next cohort!

We are so proud of Catalina's continued growth as our Development Coordinator. She is an indispensable part of our team and her cohort and the City of Oxnard will soon learn how wonderful she is with her energy and passion for our mission!

Making our rounds across Ventura County

with its business leaders

We continued our outreach across the county last month!

Just in the past few weeks, we appeared at the Latino Business Expo at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, which is the largest networking event of any kind in the county. There, we shared our programs and resources with business owners and community leaders who share our desire to build pathways out of poverty across Ventura County.

We also participated in the Ventura Chamber of Commerce's Semi-Annual Business Expo last month in Ventura. There, we also shared our programs and resources alongside over 70 other local businesses and organizations who serve the greater Ventura area. We always enjoy getting to meet friends and colleagues across the county!

Commemorating Veteran's Day

November 11th was Veteran's Day across the United States, and we joined many businesses and organizations by closing for the day.

Ventura County's veterans are near and dear to our work here at CAVC. Veterans comprise a significant number of the community members we serve, particularly in our HEAP, Weatherization, Homeless Services, and Community Market programs.

We honor their sacrifices for our freedom - and the unique challenges they continue to face - this month as we recognize Veteran's Day.
