RB Receives

Exemplary Designation

Riverside Brookfield High School has received an Exemplary Designation from the Illinois Report Card for the 2022-2023 school year! This designation means that RB is in the top-performing 10% of schools in Illinois. This could not be made possible without our excellent faculty and staff who work together to provide the best high school experience for our students.

Día de los Muertos Ofrenda

Every year during Día de los Muertos, OLAS puts together a school ofrenda (altar) for our school to celebrate and honor loved ones who have passed. Ofrendas often include photos of loved ones, sugar skulls, and favorite foods and belongings of the deceased.

Special thanks to OLAS for their efforts in designing and building the Ofrenda and Mr. Venegas’s Latin American History class for designing infographics explaining the symbolism of the objects making up the Ofrenda.

Ecology Club Restoration Workday

Ecology Club had its first restoration workday of the year on Sunday, October 29th. 22 students from Ecology Club and Applied Zoology worked at Waubansee Woods, cutting down European Buckthorn. These invasive species were brought over to the Midwest in the late 1880s and have run rampant in our forests, shading out our native plants.

Students learn how to perform oil changes, tire rotations, underhood inspections, fill up tires, check and change blown fuses, and much more. The experience gained in this class helps students build resumes, earn scholarships, and receive internships.

The American Choral Directors Association hosted its fall conference at UIUC last weekend. RB's choir director, Ms. Kayley Smetana, presented the session "A Cappella 101: Resources for Contemporary A Cappella in the Choral Program". Ms. Smetana provided directors with resources to elevate their existing ensembles or to get an ensemble started in their programs if they don't already have one established.
