Fall Activities, Academy of Sciences Night, Celebrating October!

Home Away has been busy making memories and enjoying the month of October. We carved pumpkins, did fun October learning projects and experiments, and visited our neighbors in Fort Mason for some sweet treats. We are feeling so grateful to our donors, volunteers, neighbors and staff for making all of this magic possible. Thank you! We created memories that will last a lifetime!

A HUGE thank you to California Academy of Sciences for donating 25 tickets so that our students could experience their Supernatural 2023 fundraiser. Everyone had a great time and we hope to attend more California Academy of Sciences events in the future!

This November, Help HomeAway Meet Our Food Budget Needs!

After challenges presented by the pandemic that impacted student attendance, this year we are back at full capacity offering expanded learning and college and career support to 25 youth in our School House Program in Fort Mason.

We have also re-invigorated our Beach House Program and are bringing dozens of kid to our cottage in the Marin Headlands every week. A part of both programs is the opportunity to provide healthy snacks and meals to our students. We are grateful for our incredible network of volunteer chefs who ensure we can provide nutritious family style meals to our students each day. The chefs have been good sports as we stretch our budget to feed our growing student population.

Every day we have students asking to take food home to share it with siblings and parents. We need the generosity of community members to be able to feed growing teenagers over 200 days a year. This is at least 5000 individual meals a year!

For this Giving Tuesday,

Please help us meet our goal of $50,000 - only $10 per meal!

Volunteering at HomeAway this Season

We have a LOT of new students this semester, so we need to recruit a lot of new volunteers! Volunteering at HomeAway is an incredible opportunity to form meaningful relationships and community with youth. We also welcome volunteers to participate in our community building. There are opportunities for volunteers to make the students a meal, tutor students weekly and lead activities or workshops based on their skill sets.

Specialized Volunteer Requests for this semester:

  • Bilingual tutors (Cantonese, Spanish)
  • English literacy tutors
  • Tutors able to work with students on skills like Graphic Design, Computer Engineering, Painting, Content Creation, Social Media Marketing, etc.
