On March 8th, 2023, International Women’s Day, Pathways To Peace (PTP) launched our second annual “Exceptional Women of Peace Awards." There will be two awards - one for an Exceptional Woman of Peace and one for an Exceptional Young Woman of Peace. The Campaign will culminate in September, with an Award Ceremony in conjunction with the anniversary of the UN Resolution for a Culture of Peace and Programme of Action.
How do we define Exceptional Women of Peace?
We know that women are rising all around our world and in great numbers. In big and small ways, women are standing in their power and speaking their own truth. Out of this “rising up,” we see women and young women using their voice and presence to create positive change and build lasting Peace. And we recognize that women have been the heart and hands of the movements for Peace throughout our history. As Project Lead Kimberly Weichel explains, "This award honors the inspiring work of women peacebuilders whose courage, leadership, and commitment to Peace stand out as beacons of strength and hope."
At the heart of exceptional all women of Peace, we see five fundamental driving forces:
· Passion for the world they want for all
· Compassion that recognizes and respects the value and suffering of those in need
· Vision to see a future world at Peace
· Conviction that manifests as an unwavering belief that change can happen
· Action to produce the desired change
Do you know an Exceptional Woman of Peace, or Are you One?
If so, please submit your application. Out of the pool of candidates, we will be selecting and publicly introducing ten women of distinction, five women of any age, and five young women (25 years of age and under), including the two finalists.
Nominee applications will be reviewed as they come in. The deadline for nominations is June 1st. The ten women of distinction will be selected by July 30th, and the two finalists, one in each category, will be announced at the Awards Ceremony in September.
The two finalists will receive a trophy and a $300 cash prize.
