EAA Oshkosh AirVenture follow-up

Fantastic planes, wonderful visitors, and the FAA's publishing of the MOSAIC NPRM made this year's EAA Oshkosh AirVenture one of the very best!

Surprising nearly everyone with the broad scope of the reforms proposed in the Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certification (MOSAIC) Notice of Proposed Rulemaking document, the FAA published its long-awaited MOSAIC NPRM during EAA Oshkosh AirVenture. The new rules have the potential to positively affect all segments of sport aviation.

Zenith Aircraft Company responded nearly immediately following the release of the NPRM, with a statement of support: “We support all rules that make it easier for our existing customers to continue to enjoy building and flying their airplanes. The MOSAIC NPRM proposes rule changes and new rules that will allow just that, and more.”

At the annual Zenith banquet held at AirVenture, Zenith's Sebastien Heintz pointed out that many existing Zenith builders and flyers could benefit as soon as the new rule comes into effect with increased payload. Zenith Aircraft has offered all-metal four-seat Chris Heintz designs in the past, a high wing and a low wing (prior to Light Sport Aircraft / Sport Pilot rules), proven designs that can easily be updated and brought back to production.

Zenith Aircraft also announced that it recently broke ground on a 10,000 sq.ft. expansion of its modern kit aircraft production facilities at Mexico Memorial Airport (KMYJ) in central Missouri to keep up with growing demand for its popular kit aircraft and to provide needed space for new projects. Zenith also recently posted job openings for a staff engineer, as well as in shipping and production. The company continues to be the number one brand of light sport aircraft in the U.S. based on actual FAA registrations of new aircraft.

Zenith Aircraft staff enjoyed meeting with new and existing Zenith builders and flyers at Oshkosh AirVenture, including a full house at the annual Zenith Builders Banquet.

Zenith staff demonstrated the ease of construction of its new kits, supplied ready-to-assemble right out of the box (with final hole size match-drilled parts for maximum ease of assembly). Led by Calvin Heintz in the EAA AeroPlane Hangar at AirVenture, visitors were also able to gain hands-on building experience in assembling their own all metal kit aircraft.

Here are some of the Zenith aircraft that flew in to Oshkosh (above and below).

Thanks to the Zenith builders, owners and flyers who flew in to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with their completed Zenith aircraft.

Thank you to CH 750 Cruzer builder Tim Aanerud who photographed these Zeniths at Oshkosh.

Plane & Pilot magazine features the Zenith STOL CH 750 on the cover of its Oshkosh (August 2023) issue with an eight-page article about affordable light sport aircraft.

"...Zenith is among the most prolific kit providers, leading the light aviation segment year after year," wrote Dan Johnson in the cover story.

Women's Introduction to Building Workshop At Oshkosh

Back by popular demand, Valerie Westedt (a Zenith CH 650 builder and pilot) once again presented a hands-on workshop class titled "Women's Intro to Building." Women were invited to this overview workshop of all things aircraft building. Zenith donated aluminum 3-hole binder kits to allow the all-women participants to learn the basics of sheet-metal construction and how to use the assembly tools. The class was presented twice during the week due to high demand, and will be offered at the Zenith Homecoming in September.

Now that another successful EAA Oshkosh is behind us, we're busy planning our upcoming Zenith Homecoming (Open Hangar Days and Fly-In) on September 15 & 16, at the kit aircraft factory in Mexico, Missouri!

Make plans now to join us for the Zenith Homecoming fly-in on September 15 & 16, 2023, at the Zenith factory! The annual homecoming event promises to be another activity-packed gathering of Zenith builders, owners and enthusiasts, with two full days of educational and fun activities!

All aviation enthusiasts, and especially builders and owners of Zenith Aircraft kit planes, are invited to drive or fly-in. Starting on Friday (September 15), educational workshops and seminars are scheduled, including engine and avionics seminars, as well as maintenance and building workshops. Plan also to join us for the informal Zenith banquet dinner (outdoors on the Zenith Aircraft ramp, with some great guests and door prizes!) on Friday evening, and for an outdoor BBQ dinner on Saturday evening! We'll be sharing more details about the event in the coming months. Check out the photos from 2022 to see why you don't want to miss this event.

Zenith Aircraft kits, whether the high-wing Zenith CH 750 series or the sleek low-wing Zenith CH 650, represent exceptional value to the recreational (yet demanding) pilot and to the amateur aircraft builder looking for a quality fast-build kit. The standard kits are complete, and include many pre-drilled holes (thanks to advanced CNC fabrication technology), factory-finished wing spars, and all hardware required to assemble the entire airframe. Best of all, Zenith kits are supported by one of the best companies in the industry. Getting started building your own aircraft is now even easier than ever!

Compare the value and quality of the Zenith Aircraft kits to the competition for completeness, pre-manufactured parts and components, standard equipment, low build time, simplicity of construction and required skills and tools, as well as price. We strive to keep our prices as affordable as possible, while also improving production technology with the extensive use of CNC equipment in kit production. This allows for a much higher level of parts completion (making the kits easier and quicker to build!), improved delivery schedules, and also keeps production of the kits here in North America, and what makes us the Number One brand of light sport aircraft year after year.

Parting Shot: Flying with the AeroShell Team at Oshkosh

Roger Dubbert, Zenith Aircraft's demo pilot, was invited (by our friends at AeroLEDs) to go flying with the AeroShell Aerobatic Team at EAA Oshkosh AirVenture, where he picked up a few flying tips for future demo flights ;)
