“I’ve Seen It All!
Simeon was a well-respected devout follower of God. Simeon was also old and had had probably “seen it all” in his lifetime. Simeon was faithfully waiting for the promised Savior, and the Holy Spirit revealed that he would not die before seeing him.
It’s hard to wait, isn’t it? We anxiously await our Lord’s return and if we are honest, we are often like the Israelites waiting for Moses to come down the mountain, or the disciples waiting for Jesus to fulfill his reign and rule as Lord of all defeating the Romans. But God’s ways are not ours; and often, like Simeon, we are told to wait. Simeon waits well and knows that he has not yet seen it all until he sees Jesus.
One day, led by the Holy Spirit, Simeon went to the temple courtyard. Sure enough, Jesus, the Christ Child, is brought to the temple by Mary and Joseph. When Simeon sees him, he takes Jesus into his arms and says,
“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you may now dismiss your servant in peace.
