Restoring the Heart of Jacksonville College

Chapel Renovation

From the Pen of Dr. David Erickson

President of Jacksonville College

"Part of the chapel renovation has been delayed by the insurance claim on the roof. The severe hailstorm that struck the campus in June 2023 damaged every roof on campus. We have been engaged in a contentious claim process for more than a year now, and it seems that it will continue for a while yet.

We are proceeding with the things we can do. We have already raised enough money to replace the air conditioners, so we are moving forward with that phase. If the lead times on the new units are reasonable, we expect to have the new HVAC in place for the chapel this fall. We are also looking to get some new stage curtains, purchased to get the stage looking nice again. We will then begin addressing other cosmetic improvements that make sense while we wait for the roof work to be done."

From the Desk of Chris McCurry

President of the Jacksonville College Alumni

Fellow Jags,

As we celebrated Homecoming 2024, the 125th anniversary of Jacksonville College, we looked back at many wonderful memories during our time at JBC and continued memories throughout the years. During that 125 years, Jacksonville College has seen many changes, and we continue to see more changes in recent years. Time marches on.

We have made great progress in our alumni goal to raise $150,000 for the "Restore the Heart" chapel restoration fund. We are seeing some visual progress as the new A/C units are in the process of being ordered for Buckner Chapel.

The college will be hosting a portion of the BMA of Texas meeting in the chapel in November. So, yes, we are planning to hold at least a part of Homecoming 2025 in the Chapel (date to be announced later). The JC singers are preparing to perform this year.

The Alumni Executive Council will convene on September 28, 2024 in the Norman Building on campus to plan events for Homecoming 2025. If you have any suggestions or requests, please email them to Jean Galyean by September 23, so they can be reviewed for consideration before the meeting. The meeting is open to all the alumni, but only officers will be able to vote.

Looking forward to seeing all of you for Homecoming 2025.
